Vampires?
#1
I'm debating between either 26' Vampires or 26" Outlaws. I want to use my stock Prairie wheels and this will work with the Vampires, but it won't with the Outlaws. This creates a $200.00 price difference in favor of the Vampires. Are the Outlaws that much better? Some people have recommended the 589s but I don't know if they'll handle the severe mud I'm running into. What do you think?

If all you do is ride in the mud vamps are great. If you do some trail riding, some work, some all around use you will find the 589's to be a better tire. They are still hands over better than stock tires in the mud but they won't rattle the teeth out of your head on hardpack. As far as the outlaw/vamp debate.... in my opinion they accomplish the same thing. If you have an extra $200 to spend buy the vamps or 589's and get a winch.

I have 27" vampires on my 4x4 and they work great.
it takes an act of god to get stuck in mud. but they are right about the fact that they will be a bumpy ride. if you know that you definately want a mud tire that looks mean (and is)I would definately choose the vamps. I have buddies with outlaws and they are about the same in the mud they both work very well. $200 bucks is what makes or breaks the debate for me.
my dad has some bear claw 27" and they handle the mud fairly well. not swamp worthy but a much smoother ride. it all comes down to what you like to do with your atv.

The 25" 589s did NOT beat the 27" Vamps, they scored a 9 out of 10 while the Vamps scored a 9.5 out of 10 in the mud.
Overall, Yes. The 589s did beat them overall, but not in mud.
I would recomend the the 26" Vamps for your 400, but if you go 27" I would get Magnum bi/tri-claws. They are awsome.
They ride better than vamps and mud just as good, IF NOT BETTER.

Roman,
I have been having 27" Vamps for 2 years now on my machine, and use them for all sorts of riding and I have no complaints at all. I have 2 brothers in Louisiana that use Vamps on their machines and ride with other people with all sorts of different mud tires. They have not once bowed down or lost to any other tire in the mud. All they do is stay in the mud too.
Look at my photos and see what types of terrain I ride in. They have done just as good as stock tires in the gravel. Guys I hunt with every year laughed when I first got my tires, but guess what they have now. No more laughing.
I also snow plow with the Vamps and they do very well for that too. I am very well satisfied with Vamps and wouldn't buy anything different right now.
