Just south on I-95 to Rt 3 West in Fredericksburg to Rt-20 toward Orange approx. 10 miles then look for the above directions.
Look forward to seeing you there,
There appears to be many local ATV's showing up, but who knows.
The last pull was not advertised and about 25 showed up.
See you there.

I may take the trip up there but I'm not sure of busting the trans outta the new toy 8 hours on it doesn't justify me breaking it yet.

I have been involved with the pulling game since 1991, both sides of the hook. I have yet to see a machine broken or break at the sled. I built my first sled in 1992 the last one last year. Yes I have pulled with all of my machines, both manual trans and the old Polaris belt burner. I have seen a few belts get hot but not enough to damage it. The auto drive machines seem to have the advantage most times, but luck, skill, and good tires have been known to beat a auto drive. Now I didn't say to put water in the tires because then you would have a modified machine.
Sure would like to be there, little too far to travel though. I would like to see some pictures of the event.

Pullerguy,
I agree with you on all, and yes the belt drives do seem to have an advantage in initial ground speed, also the guys that try to shift the manual boxes usually screw it up under pressure.

Thought would add info about the sled, it can be set up for about 200 ft pull for most ATV's or can stop a 1/2 Ton Ford 4X4 Pickup in about 150 ft.
Has hand brake incase of problem, weight is about 3500 lb. and works very smooth with a person on a seat.
Have done 5 shows with it and is setup good.

Looking for a fun summer.
Thanks

I sure would like to see some pictures of the sled, I'll have to take some of and send them to you. Mine is only 1900# then I have 3 100# weights I use to make up for the bigger machines. I am going to build a tank to fill with water to for the box, that way when I haul it I can dump the water and make the load lighter. I used a transaxle from a "? year" mid 80's Dodge Colt, 4 speed and it has a high/low splitter. The box moves up in 67 feet in 1st low, and in 3rd high it is about 290 feet.

Pullerguy,
Interesting,
We have it on a 3/4 Ton Chevy pickup rear axle, why we were able to use the surge brakes when towing and a hand brake when riding on it.

(Can assure you a light half ton Ford 4X4 pickup has a struggle towing this thing in the mtns, why I pull it with my 2001 Ford Power Stroke)

Have added a 3part line , did have a two part line, but not enough slow speed for the lil fellers to make a nice pull. using the 2 part line in 4 th gear (p/u 4 speed)IT would hit the box trip at approx 180'.

As we both know the condition of the ground, tires, air pressure, condition and size of the 4X4 all make a difference even the experience of the driver can add a few feet.

We have pulled a few 2 wheel drive units, they get it about 25 ft.
Could go on and on, but you get ths pix.

Also have sold space on the sides for local merchants to put a sign

We are having fun

SprintPusher:
Sounds like a great machine, bigger than mine by quite a bit. I tried to build this one so the 200cc units could pull it, I don't ride it. I have been thinking about putting a seat and brakes on it. Lot of trips up and down the track walking along side the sled, I need the exercise however. I load it on my trailer with 2 quads when we go to the National ATV Jamboree in Fillmore,Uath in June. Oh yea, there are some pictures of the old sled on that web site, www.mooracing.com after the page open up look for the pictures of the mudbog & pull. If you go to www.offroad.com and do a search for "2001 Rocky Mountain Jamboree" there are some pictures in the ATV Rodeo of the new sled.
We are doing a fun pull this weekend $5.00 a machine, money is going to the club we are starting here. We will be in the new indoor events center, after the motocross racers get through with practice Saturday afternoon.
We have used our sled out of town more than at home, been hard to get anything going here. I got hooked up with a guy that promotes motocross races, I think we can get
some events going here.
Thanks for the information.

That looks like a lot of fun.

From the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing like that up here in Alaska.

How would you go about organizing an ATV pull?
Obviously, you would have to come up with a sled.
You would have to find a place to hold the event.
You would have to advertise to let people know it's going on.

Am I missing anything?

I went to the two websites mentioned and looked at the sleds. I really wish I had more time. I would try to build one.

We have a State Fair like so many other places. It would be a neat addition to the activities there.
