Which ATV's can use a plow?
All of them? I'm looking at getting an ATV and one of the big uses I have for it is to plow. I haven't been able to find good info on which ATV have plows made for them. Also, when I buy a plow - do I need to get a mounting kit as well, or does it come with mounting. My budget is not a lot so I don't think I can get a 4x4. I've been considering the Recon, Ozark, Bayou, Beartracker (not the Trailblazer because of it's chain drive). Of course I will have some fun with it on trails and in my backyard (4+ acres).

Plows are made for a wide variety of machines, I'd reccomend that you get a 4x4 bike at least 300cc for plowing. A smaller bike may have enough power, but may not have enough weight to get decent traction.
This is only a guideline, as I've seen blades custom fitted to all kinds of bikes, even 3 wheelers!!!

We use our Recons to plow snow and they do great.Last night we had about 4 inches and we plowed the whole development without any problems. We don't even use chains and it did great. Our plow is a Cycle Country Lite Force 48in. plow and it does a nice job.The mounting doesnt come with the plow but you buy it with the plow from the same company. You would be happy with a Recon or Recon ES.

Memento~ Have you ever considered a Bombardier Traxter XT 500cc or maybe even the Quest 500 or 650.
I own a TraxterXT and let me tell you, with it's "true transmission" (not belt) it is one of the most powerful atv's I've ever driven. Just awesome low end grunt to this Hummer of an ATV. Do yourself a favor and at least look into it, or talk to other Bombardier riders. You be the judge.

Thanks for the feedback! This forums is quite helpful. I realize that 4x4 would be much better than 2x4 and that a heavier and more powerful one is better, but I have a budget constraint. I'd LOVE to get a Traxter, but I can't shell out $7000. I have to stay under $5000 and would like to be under $4000. That pretty much rules out any new 4x4 (the Big Bear and Magnum are just over $5000). But I do have around 700ft of driveway to plow. I may have to wait so I can save up some more $$$. decisions. decisions.

The 250 4X4 is shaft all the way around. It also has fully independant suspension (front and rear) It is a 5speed (i believe) with an auto clutch. It comes in red, as well as green and i've seen them in Canada for around $4800. The 300 shouldn't be that much more, and it has the best tranny for work, triple range (hi, low, super low)
