Do drum brakes not work? they seem to stop me.

The Baja Rincon had the front wheel drive stuff taken off because they didn't need it and im sure a pipe, gearing change, larger gas tank, different tires, stering stabalizer, suspension mods. but nothing crazy like boring the engine. lemmie find that link...........

ah ok here read all about it: atvnews tests the baja winning Rincon

and: Baja winning Rincon

I just want to know who would prefer to have drum brakes????
They last longer in some cases.

Maximum length out of my Kodiak rear pads is 1 year, dad's 300 is still on the original brakes! Downshift! My KOD has EB so i rarely use the brakes. My brothers 450 is a year and a half, never adjusted the brakes once! So i couldn't care less what type of brakes i have.............as long as they're water tight. (if they're not, like the front on the 300 honda they'll wear out quick)

The Rincon isn't ment for towing, but i think the majoruty of sport ute riders just use the rackes for coolers, like us, which the Rincon can handle.

BTW ttaylor, i can make fun of a 400 AC too! Lets see POWER!!!

That pretty hard to believe your brother didnt have to adjust his brakes in a year and a half. He must not have rode it any or if the did ride it he didnt have any brakes. My brother in law said he had to keep his 450es brakes adjusted all the time. He has a Rincon now and he said as soon as his front pads wear out he is switching them over the the High Lifter disk brake system.

Getting back to the Big Bore Shootout, I thought it was pittyful to see the test rider lie like they did. Thats what I call it anyway. Why did they say the rincon has exceptional engine brakeing?? It does not!! It dont even have engine brakeing below 7mph. That when it needs it the most. I have rode my brother in laws rincon many times and I know this to be fact. I stopped reading the article word for word when they mentioned the engine brakeing. How could the test riders mislead potential buyers. This is the very reason so many rincons have been returned to the dealer and traded for a rubicon or a 450.

His 450 has over 2K on it. The front brakes are down a little, but not a lot. We ride wide open, so why would you need brakes?? BTW we are in mud and water, sometimes over the headlights, (it's a 5speed, clunk it down a gear, that does the trick!)

I think it's safe to say your a little biassed, you own a prairie.
The owners tell me The Rincon does have an engine braking system, Honda designed a one way lockup clutch in the torque converter. And from what I here it works just as good if not better than any other system, that is of course if you know how to use it! To use the unique engine braking on the Rincon you have to down shift to engage it, it then slows you to around 5-7mph. It will keep you from going faster than that speed but if you want to go slower than that you have to use the brakes, that doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

If you ever rode one down a slippery steep hill you would know that it is a big deal. As far as me being biased, Im not, Im just stateing facts about the rincon and drum brakes in general. The Rincon does have engine brakeing but it releases below 7mph. I would much rather have engine brakeing BELOW 7mph than above it were you dont even need it. How can this work as good as anyother system? What was Honda thinking on that one. And the drum brakes,?? who ever heard of drum brakes on a $7500 atv? Name me one atv with an MSRP of $6000 or better with drum brakes.

It dont matter to me what people buy or what "any" shootout says, I wouldnt $7500 for a Rincon. Just not enough ATV there. I would much rather have a 2003 Arctic Cat 500 and save over $1000.

I don't own a 650 Prarie but I almost bought one but decided to go with a 450 Kodiak instead. Then traded it for a KFX400 Kaasaki. I have also had Arctic Cats as well. I have no brand loyalty at all. I have riden all the big bore quads for quite a bit of time on trails not in the parking lot. The Rincon does have some engine braking but on the trails it is almost nonexistant. Going down steep hills slick or dry you must use your brakes or you will really be picking up speed. Where on every other quad except Polaris which only has rear wheel engine braking, you can just let it crawl down and never have to use the brakes. If a Rincon owner hasn't noticed this about his or her quad then they don't ride it. The Rubicon has excellent engine braking, probably the best of any out there. Myself I don't like the engine braking on the Prarie either it is electric and seems a little harsh and sudden. The Yamaha Grizz and Kodiak have excellent engine braking as well. You really start to notice this while riding the brakes down over 2500 feet with the brakes on, hey it wasn't my Rincon. He is replacing the brake pads at a little over 500 miles now.
As far as disc or drum I like disc but there are a lot of Honda owners that like the drum. At least that is what they say. I know people that have had good reports on their drum brake Hondas. I believ if you trade every few years or sooner it would not be an issue. The Rincon brakes are good, no complaints there.
If they would have put the Rubicon tranny with low range in the Rincon I probably would have one. I also hear the new Rancher doesn't have a low range either. What are they thinking?

who ever heard of drum brakes on a $7500 atv?
Make that like $11 000 up here!!!!

The reason the rubi tranny wasn't used in the rincon was because it dosen't work well with higher HP motors. Now that's what they say, but i think they're full of plop because the rincon puts out like 16HP doesn't it? The rubi must make cloe to that!?

It's not possible for it to only have 16HP,my 250 recon makes around that.The rincon's a 650.
