and is much cheaper to make
Maybe that's why they cost a little more.

The belts do seem to work well, the kodiak is my first belt driven quad, and i have had no problems with it yet..............

Adam it seems I have upset you that was not my intention at all.

You say the Rincons suspension wins hands down well that is for debate I will leave that up to all the guys on IRS i will say this don't jump too far if the walk is too great, enough said. As for me I prefer the suspension and the plushness of the ride on a sportsman and the attitude of the IRS on the Grizz as well as the clearance of the Artic Cat.

The auto transmission on the quad was simple to make for the quad it was already in the Honda civic
As for belt drives they have been around for decades and will continue to be offered as they are cheaper to maintain than if your servo were to leave your transmission in my belief. The LINCO style transmission in the Rincon is a throwback of a combination of a civic and 60's technology who took a leap? Just asking.

Read the last part of my article as I was giving points from my viewpoint and if the Baja was a test of the Rincon it had a lot of aftermarket parts on it don't you think.. Read ATV news this month they have an artice covering the mods.

To the person who said that we should test drive before we buy, I'm with you 100%. Regardless of what any magazine said about any quad, it should be taken with a grain of salt. I've never read one review that was completely accurate. For the most accurate reviews listen to the people on this forum. Most people know what their talking about and can point out the certain advantages and disadvantages that each quad has(they all have some of both) and from this you can decide which one is for you. Now, of course, you may run into the occasional 13-year-old puddle of afterbirth that says dumbass things like Polarass and Craptor..etc...but you learn to ignore them and their stupidity...they are usually wrong anyway. (monteSS- the 700 was not discontinued and switched to a 600) Test drive and buy the one that matches your riding.

DustinMinnesota,
You said the Polaris was a 3.5wd machine, it's not. True, the rear wheels slip a little (I think it's 1/5 of a turn) before the fronts engage, but once they are in it's full 4wd. I agree that adding a locker would be better on technical stuff like rock climbing(the need to slip in those situations could be dangerous), but in normal stuff like loose gravel climbs, mud, and pulling the performance is the same. No flame, just a correction.

The front end on the Polaris is a limited slip isn't it? That is what the dealers here say. Would that not mean that one wheel should give before the other takes hold. And as for the rear wheel situation you are dead on it as they do not have to turn much for them to engage. If I have misinformed about the front end I apologize.

The Polaris 500 4X4 system is basically one way bearings in the hubs, activated by an electro magnet. Once you engage the 4X4, if the rear wheels start to spin faster then the fronts (about 1/5 of a rotation) then the hubs/one way bearings engage with the drive line and you have equal power to all 4 wheels untill you get back off of the gas. It works smoothly and you never feel anything happening. Not sure why a dealer would call that 3.5 wheel drive.
The 600/700 4X4 system uses the same basic set up except the mechanism is in the frame, not the hubs.

After talking to a dealer he said they are already replacing the drum brakes on the rincon with the customers asking about disc's already,1 quad was only 21/2 mos old,i like the rincon but the low -tech brakes really takes the appeal out of a nice looking rig,the baja winning rincon had special factory trick parts that you can't buy at the honda dealer.

adamwn,

3. Has ANY utility quad ever attempted a run at BAJA???(Baja is a big deal, and an indicator of tuffness/quality. (Its a torture test on the engine/trans/chassis and the Rincon definitely passed)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In answer to this question YES!! Mike Penland has been running the baja 500 and 1000 for several years on a Kawasaki Prairie. He has finished very well in all the years he has run.

I also agree that the magazines are biased according to the likes and dislikes of their editors, writers, and riders. This is why it is important to test the machine out for your intended use.

That's funny, my next door neighbors civic will "creep" at a red light with-out your foot on the brakes, also it doesn't have any sort of engine breaking, even above 8mph.

The belt drive has been around in on way, shape or form since the 1800's. But that dosen't mean it's a bad system.

BTW did the p650 win baja? Realy though i couldn't care less!!!!

I'm still undecided what the best brake would be. I was on my friends Prairie this weekend running in the snow and the brakes worked like crap, turns out that they were all iced up.
