Default Yamalube?

I've got a 2000 kodiak 400. What other oil can I use besides overpriced Yamalube? A buddy of mine swears by Castroil 20w-50. Does any one know the Fram oil filter I can use?

EMGO oil filter for probably around $5.00. I haven't seen any Fram yet. I wonder if Fram has a site with a filter listing?

Default Yamalube?

I have found a great oil made for 4 stroke wet clutch motors, that is OEM certified by all the major manufacturers. It is called Trophy brand oil, I get it at Mills Fleet Farm, don't know if all states have those stores, but check with other big outlet stores, chances are they may carry something like that. I have used it for the last few years, and had no problems. Best thing is, it is only 1.65 a quart, sometimes 1.49 on sale. Car oils are not made for wet clutch set ups, they tend to tear up the oil faster. Belt drive quads are different, since they don't have a wet clutch set up, they can use regular car oil, since it is only used to lube the motor, and can go a lot farther between oil changes. In that case, a decent synthetic oil would provide the best protection. If you are using car oil in a clutch type set up, stay away from anything that says 'energy conserving', that has friction modifiers to make it slippery, so it will cause clutch glazing and slipping. usually 10w40 and thicker is safe to use, but you will need to change it a lot more often.
