Lowers the freezing point of the water and it also causes the water to get colder when agitated with the ice. even the salinity of ocean waters allows the water to be chilled to 28 or 29 without it freezing. We did an experiment on one of our boats for the Jap fish buyers and we addeda couple thousand lbs of salt to the fishhold and chilled the water to 24° to see if the quality of the fish was anybetter when we got em to the plant. It ended up bein to much of a pain. The Chillers kept Icing up and it was hard on the compressors. anyway It just gets colder. Colder beer put Ice in a bucket with rocksalt and water. Open your beer and it turns to ice. ever made icecream? you put rocksalt and Ice on the outside of the Stirtub because it gets coooold. anyhow. lol
94.1 g must be added to 1 kg of water to Lower the freezing point -6°C.
The agitation causes the molicules to get pissed off and the get cold.

Ok By my calculations 11 oz NaCl (salt) added to 1 gallon water allows it to be chilled to -6°C or 21°F
The typical salinity of sea water is about 3.7 ounces per gallon so one could duduce that to be roughly 1/3rd the salinity of the control solution. that being said seawater should be a freezing point of -2°C or 28.4°F
How do i get my numbers?
Distilled water weighs in around 62.4 lbs/Cu.ft
Sea water weight iin around 64.1 lbs/Cu.ft
there are 7.48 Gallons in a Cu.ft
So Pure water weighs around 8.34 lbs/gal
and sea water weighs around 8.57 lbs/gal
and blah blah blah ...
