Default Puget Sound/Seattle NW Area Riders Meet HERE!!!

Ok, a little late, but oh well.
With the Change from Summer to Winter riding, time for SEAN to get on his SAFETY soap box (really only because I care ) I will try to be brief, if you want more info let me know and I would be glad to chat.

Number 1 safety tip (and most important) PLEASE, I would recommend NOT wearing any type of COTTON clothing (I won't check your underwear though) while riding, especially in wet weather.
DO NOT even wear it under yor rain gear, it can and will get wet.
The three most important things to not be covered with cotton are your feet, your hands, and your head (which we wear a helmet, but I would throw a non cotton stocking hat in your pocket for when you stop and take your helmet off).

Cotton retains all the water it absorbs, and stays wet. Thus quickly robbing your body of it's heat.
When cotton gets wet it loses ALL of it's insulating properties.
Trust me, once you get wet, it doesn't take long for hypothermia to set in. Especially while riding and having the cold wind blowing on you.

(2) Wear synthetic, fleece, or wool clothing.
Wear it in layers to fit your comfort level.
Wear a good comfy pair of long underwear as your first layer (not cotton) and go from there.
Wear a warm under coat and pants

(3) The outer layer should be a good windproof and waterproof (not resistant) layer.
While riding you do not want the cold wind and/or rain getting through.
The windchill alone while riding can cause you to start to become hypothermic, and it doesn't take long.

(4) Wear good waterproof boots, insulated preferred. With warm socks (not cotton).

(5) Try to find some good waterproof gloves, and as windproof as you can. A thin glove liner doesn't hurt.
It's hard to find gloves that work well for ridng, but Gore-Tex seems to work well and you can get some pretty lightweight ones..

This is just a very basic overview, but I think you get the point. This will be a good start, if you want any more info just let me know. I have lots of files and websites I can share.

Thanks for reading
