I've ridden that race a few years... If it's in Odessa again... just tell him to remember "Still water runs deep" and don't ride your bike across the water crossings... Keep the bike running and motor it across the water while walking along side it... if he does drop the bike in the water, get it out on the other side, hold the bike on it's front wheel and have someone crank it over to get the water into the pipe... then rotate the bike so the water goes out the pipe... He'll be able to get'er started in a short while...

I passed 50 or so people mired in the water... some people still fishing for their bikes...

Don't lead the start of the race... dried up creek beds are hidden by the brush, large rocks are hidden by the brush... pick a fast rider and follow them... once they bite it, find another. A bunch of people were airlifted to Spokane on the poker run because the course allows for high speed in some sections... It has some tough sections, but it's all doable.

I'd come across people that bit it hard... bike all twisted up like a pretzel from hitting a rock... seeing a guy rolling around in the bushes... Guys in orange vests riding around to aid the injured...

The vantage course was kinda difficult at times... going 60-70 mph across basalt rock was easier than going slow... it was like riding across ball-bearings.

I had a lot of fun out there... You guys have fun, be careful and enjoy yourself!
I have never rode in the desert 100 race, but last year we went with a buddy of ours and its was VERY dusty. We brought my jeep so my boyfriend and I just cruized around in that. Boy oh Boy did i get drunk there last year. It was not a pretty site. I found my cousin who was there and i was already drunking velvet and coke well i ran out so i started drinking beer which i hate. Needless to say it didn't stay down. I haven't heard if we are going this year or not.

About the ride this weekend it really dont matter to me. But if we do bring the quads i wont beable to bring my trailer due to my boyfriend loaning it out. When i told him what i was doing this weekend. So he told me i could borrow his F350. So if we do bring the quads I wont have a trailer (this is for skllz and LdyJay). Also if we do bring quads i will need someone to help me get my quad out if that would be possible.

Now Bear i have the list of guns that you have and or are bringing to the shoot out. Now i have a couple of questions for you. I'm going to be buying ammo so i need to know which one would suit me the best.

I would like to borrow a gun that doesn't have a BIG kick to it. The only gunes i have shot are a 30-06 (that i hunt with) which has a BIG kick to it, (which i dont like). And the gun i borrowed when i took my hunting class. So which gun do you think we suit me best. I would like to get the ammo in the next couple of days.

It doesn't really matter to me if you guys just want to do the shoot/potluck thing. Just give me a time and directions

WQ; I would recommend that you do the Wally World thing I buy "22 Long Rifle" ammo. They have a brick of 500 or 550 rounds for less than $10 (I prefer the Federal brand as I think it works best in my guns). Those will work in rifles and pistol and no recoil (kick). For something with a little more life to it without being abusive, get some 7.62X39 ammo at a gun store. Get surplus ammo as any other is to expensive, If you can't find any I can sell you some from my ammo depot at my cost.

Yeah, that's part of the Iron Man competition... show up around 9:00 at night on Friday, drink 'till 2:00 am.... wake up at 8:00 am Saturday morning from the lawn chair... put on your gear and ride the poker run... get back and drink 'till 2:00 am... wake up in your lawn chair at 8:00 am Sunday morning go to the rider's meeting... Ride *****-out for 100 miles... get your t-shirt and go home... If you actually get home that day... you've won.

Not recommended for people that have to work on Monday... or any day that following week.

One of my boyfriends friends won the desert 100 two years ago. I think last year he got 3. His name is Phil Stevens, he is awesome on a motorcycle. Last year when we watched the start of the desert 100 he was right in front and must of been in 4 gear when he flew by us. He was going over the sage brush like it wasn't even there. My cousin goes over just to have a good time.

Angie, yes the 22 long rifle ammo is for a .22 rifle, can also be used in some .22 pistols.

As Rod says yes 22LR is used in 22 rifles and pirtols, but there are 22 shorts and 22CB's out there and my guns won't funtin with those. That's why I specified 22LR (Long Rifle). I also have a 22 Magnum pistol, but that ammo is very expensive compared to 22LR. Sorry I couldn't answer sooner but spent the day at Harborview getting my hand and finger worked on again.

I just went for the party... then did a ride or two... When I rode the race, I was in survival mode... There wasn't any chance to win, the winers have an AVERAGE speed of 60 mph... that's nuts!
