OMG King, Sandbomber is right, you have way too much time on your hands. If you need something to do, I can make a list for you. I've had practice, I do it to my son all the time. He's a very busy boy...

Bigdaddy, 2mny & a couple other guys at beverly rode hard, if Im going to ride Im going to push it. At some point you will crash no matter what you do. Protection helps save body parts like the guys pointed out. Listen to them!!! This is a hot button for me too yodaddy!! I guess I have seen so many guys get hurt over the years including myself

Sandbomber, I noticed those fancy riding slip-ons last weekend, was hopeing they weren't normal attire.
Chest protector-When I first got my Cr500 I was at Belfair just putting around lost attention looking at something over my shoulder hit a bump caught throttle and started wheeling down the trail. Just a i was about to bail bike turned completely sideways and slammed a berm with me laying out on the handlebars. The guy I had bought the bike from had given me his chest protector or I might have done more damage than two cracked ribs, thought I cracked my sternum for sure, took almost three months to heal. After getting a quad I have gotten more laid back with wearing it except when I rode RMC but I do need to were it more.
I do wear a full riding girdle with Kidney, butt, thigh, and hip pads, and wear knee shin guards. Need to protect myself so that when I too get over 50 (Happas not 50 yet!!!) I too can ride as well and often as those that are over or close to 50.

I was wondering If the older guys remember the plastic boots in the late 70s (saved me) look like ski boots Cheech, I was riding bikes at a young age & like you I want to ride in my 50s with my grandson

i can't count the number of times i've had a foot go under a rear tire since i started riding quads... my boots have been well used & beat on... i probly need to buy some newer ones.
an argument for a chest protecter- my brother had an argument with a barbed wire fence during a race, lost the argument (2 stitches), but without the chest protector he would have had more.... i wear mine most of the time now.
when i'm racing, i also wear a neck pad.. sort of wraps around under the helmet to prevent neck injuries by over extension.

Man them neck rolls are a good idea. I have had way to many neck injuries. My neck will never be the same. A few month ago i was hit in the helmet by a tree and let me tell you i wish i had a neck roll on. I usually wear my boots when i am riding. I use to have a atc250 and let me tell you when you have one of those or both of the tires eat up the back of your legs you really think about safety gear. I am going to buy a chest protector. To make sure i am still up for beating 2mnytoyz.

WOW
I figured I'd get some replies. I Didn't mean to drum up so many memories about people getting hurt, sorry. Nobody can say you guys don't take safety seriously, thanks a bunch for the replies. I take safety pretty seriously, but had no idea how much other gear should be worn while riding. I've read lots of stuff on-line, but didn't find much as far as war stories or anything really stressing why to wear these items. Since I've been asking around, boy what an eye opener. best thing I did was post the question on here, lot's of experience floating around. I'll start saving my pennies to start off with some boots and chest protector. Looked around at them the other day and it'll cost a couple hundy dollars for just boots and chest protector. Plus to many to choose from, I hate making decisions. But it's time to start shopping.
Thanks a Bunch for all the info guys.

I work as an EMT at a Go-Kart track during their races and boy I've seen how those neck collars are a lifesaver. Definately could be a good idea for riding also. Especially for kids. I have already thought about getting them for my kids when they ride. Little kids, weak necks, heavy helmets, not a good combination.
They do wear kidney belts also, but I don't know why they don't where some kind of chest protector. I've seen more than enough guys bend up their steering wheel pretty darn good.
