Sandbomber, great to hear you'll make it to the dunes for the new year! The dealer gave me a loaner trailer while he's fixing my trailer. Needs a new brake drum, the wheel gaulled the portion that slides over the hub.
So, we're still going... Where do you think you'll be staying?

How many out here wear the chest protectors and riding boots? In my never ending pursuit to learn all that I can, I have heard and came to the conclusion that riding boots are a definate and chest protectors are a really good idea. My impression of what chest protectors are for has been enlightened, and many have said they won't ride without riding boots (from lesson's learned). What do you all think? Any advice?

All indications so far are that it's being taken care of at no cost to me. It couldn't cost too much if I did pay for it. Thanks for the offer though, I'll keep it in mind for the future.

I wear all there is to wear. I guess it comes from my mx days. Even at the dunes I wear everything. Helmet, goggle's, chest protector, boot's, knee cups, you name it! I still can't get over the jokers at the Oregon dunes riding 70 hp Banshee's with only a baseball hat, goggle's, shorts, and tennins shoes! I asked a guy once, "Why bother protecting your eye's if you're not worried about your head!" Needless to say, I was met with a lot of expletives. LOL Point is, take every precaution you can. Hopefully you'll never need it.
If you buy a chest protector, look for something with floating shoulder pads.

I generally wear a chest protector when riding in a rocky/gravelly area. Rocks don't feel too good. I shot a hole in my son's chest protector when I was getting on it on my CR500. I didn't know he had caught up to me when I did it. It wiped off his headlight and almost took him off his bike. When I stopped to wait for him, I got an ear full. Then noticed he had a 1" hole in his roost-protector. But I don't wear one when I ride in the sand.
I wear boots every time I ride. Hear's a good reason to: You can't replace your feet! If you screw up your ankle or the bones in your feet, you'll live with it for the rest of your life. Just ask my wife, she lost her foot in a motorcycle accident about 13 years ago. ALWAYS WEAR BOOTS!!!! We pay $6,000ish for a quad, her leg is $12,000 and it wears out every couple of years. Thank goodness for good insurance. Boots are much cheaper.
I'm off my soap-box now...
