Hey WingyDingy,
Depends How much you really want to spend.....
Depends on what you want to do with it.............
If you would like a radio, then right now the Garmin Rhino is the only way to go.
With these you can keep track of each other on the screen
The minimum would be the Rhino 120
But they now have brand new ones, that have 5 watts transmit power. SPENDY though.
If you don't want the radio, then there are many many more to look at.
Rhinos, as others will pop up and say I'm sure, are nice..........
For those currently with the RHINOS
The FCC has just approved the transmitting of the buddy locator on the GMRS channels (higher watts, better range).
This is brand new. Before you could only transmit your position to another Rhino on the lower watt FRS channels.
You can upgrade your current radios to do this.
But you must download the updated software from the Garmin website.
It's pretty easy, I'll get the link and post it later tonight hopefully.
I'm not sure if they have the upgrade on the site yet, but you can check and see.

I agree with Sean. I have a pair of the 120's and Garmin makes a nice little handle bar mount that leaves on only a small portion of it on the bar when the 120 is not mounted. Has accessory power plug so it runs off the quad's battery, and saves the AA for walking while hunting or sightseeing. A nice ear bud with lapel mike and PTT button setup. Has enough map and track memory space for any but the guy who goes out for a week without down loading into the computer. You can down load maps, tracks and points of interest (parks, gas stations, water falls, etc) in to the unit for a specific area from your computer or laptop. They are tough, but if you roll your quad on it it will break the case, however the unit still works, just can't see the screen thru the cracks. Send it to Garmin with $90 and they will fix or replace it.

I don't mount mine to the machine. I turn it on and put it in my day-pack. If the wife want's to know where to find me, she pings my location and drives there... Mostly in the dunes.
Two thumbs up for the 120's. Purchased mine at Amazon.com (they were the cheapest at the time of purchase).
Howdy all!
It has been way too long since I last rode!
Still don't know when Nate is shipping out, some time in mid-late Oct presumably and he is thinking he will have 5-7 days leave sometime in Oct.
He has a 4 day weekend this weekend, his 2nd in 3 weeks, so he is flying to Portland to see Katie. Cindy and I will be driving down to see him just in case he gets no more leave so we will miss the BBQ.
Cindy and I have a feeling he may not get any more leave, he got all his shots last Friday.
He will be getting on a ship with the Bradleys in Corpus Christi 3-4 weeks before the rest of the 4th ID deploys. He just doesn't know the deployment date.
If he has leave over the Florence weekend we will not be going UNLESS he wants to go for the weekend. I want him to do what he wants to do on his last visit home for a while.

~Racing at Thurston County ORV Park~
It official, there are races set up at Thurston County ORV for the weekends of October 8th-9th and October 23rd-24th. There will be ATV classes for these events.
Here is a FLYER for the races on the 23rd and 24th. When I find the flyer for the first race, I'll post it.
