Or muzzle loader or revolver. Why the hell would you need a rifle to kill anything in this state?
Ummm - - - - Pointy sticks, shotguns and the rest are not all that effective in most of Eastern Washington. Lots of deer, including Blacktails, are taken at ranges well in excess of 200 yards.
Only lazy people hunt Eastern Washington. It's to open and the game has nowhere to hide. Not like the western side of the mountains. Any shootin' at animals past 100 yards isn't huntin' anymore, it's sniping and unfair to the animal.
I disagree with you. I have been hunting for about 5 years and have NEVER gotten an animal in Eastern Washington. I sit at a stand all day long and don't see the right animal (usually elk) that i'm looking for. Where my family hunts there is alot of places for the animals to hide.

Just talked to Nate today, he finished his last patrol!

Should be heading from Camp Normandy to Camp Anaconda on Sunday, hang there for a few days then head to Kuwaitt for a day or so and then to Colorado!

Awful lot of space around a deer, even the Mules, at 400 yards. A little wind or adrenaline makes for an easy miss. Different kind of hunting for sure but just as "fair" as ambushing a deer at 20 yards with a pistol. Also a lot less chance of loosing a badly hit animal in open country. And it ain't really sniping till you get out to the longer ranges with really powerful scopes. One of my favorites is a 6MM wildcat topped with a Leopold 24X.

Can't wait for spring. The quad and that rifle are gonna be tough on the coyotes.

Good news! Any chance he will be home for Christmas? Or is that expecting too much? Looking forward to a winter ride and a chance to shake his hand.

It is plumb amazing how a big ol elk can hide behind a bush the size of a garbage can.

He's flying here Dec. 23rd. Don't know if we'll get a ride in but he may want too. I'll give everyone notice if he wants to go for a ride.

Then he's getting married on Jan. 6th and he has to be back on base on Jan. 10th
