The one original muzzle loader I still shoot on occasion is a Remington model 1856 with Maynerd tape primer system. 58 Calibre and likes 65 grains of FFFG. Best group ever was 16" at 50 yards. Not really good enough for hunting to my way of thinking.

Nearly all of the "Muzzle Loaders" you see used for hunting today are rifles. The modern muzzle loader is a far cry from the originals that were used until the mid 1800's. Matter of fact most of the modern coal burners are capable of longer range and accuracy than the Sharps 50-70 breach loader, Model 1852, I often use as a brush gun.
