Now that Big D has posted his reasons for leaving the PSAR thread I feel compelled to do the same.
When I first came to this thread about a year and a half ago or so , I was welcomed with open arms. Thank you!! I pretty much saw posts from like minded people that all share the love of riding and camping and just overall having a good time. I went on my first group ride and had a blast and made some good friends. We planned and went on more rides, several dune trips and all were a great time. All the while we planned and talked about these rides on the forum and talked about life in general. Went to a few get togethers and had a blast and made more friends. Then a few newcomers as well as old members that didnt post much when I started began posting and the face of the thread started changing. Lots of what I felt were abrasive comments made by a certain individual that I feel were uncalled for and lacked sensitivity and respect that I feel is owed to people you call friends. Then the Post by Nikili was made and because he is a friend and knowing his feelings about the subjects of guns and gun violence, I asked if we could respect his feelings on the matter even though the tone of his post wasn't well received. An assault of comments about constitutional rights and extremist views came forth, all of this having nothing to do with quads or riding or just friends catching up on life in general. I tried to make my point which was all about tolerance and respect, not about guns or gun rights or constitutional rights, and it was pretty much ignored, and the certain individual continued to make what I felt were abrasive and offensive comments and I don't feel one should have to scroll right over them when there is a proper forum to post those views in, but I agreed to disagree. In the ensuing days I felt like some of the forum members turned their backs on one of its members and then rubbed the gun talk in his face and those that had the where with all to speak in support of him by making it the main topic of conversation,,, and tried to make light of what I felt was an important situation,,, I tried to convey that in my posts on the subject. When I could not get my point across I became frustrated and decided it was time to leave the thread and give things time to settle down with hopes of being able to participate again in the future. Then as Big D mentioned in his post came the comments of a couple of individuals about how they would shoot someone if they were in a certain situation, something I think is totally inappropriate on an open forum, comments like those just gives the anti gun lobby more ammo to use against responsible gun owners. I too am an avid Hunter and shooting sports enthusiast as well as a trained expert marksman but I do not feel or see the need to discuss it on a where to ride forum knowing some might find it offensive... So in closing, instead of staying and adding to the animosity and further driving a wedge between the good members of PSAR by voicing my opinions on this subject I will take my leave of the thread. I still would like to stay in contact with the members I have met and rode with and I have come to be Friends with as I really enjoy your company and riding with you. And know this,,,, when I consider someone a friend I will always have their back as that is what friends do. You don't have to agree with me and my take on things just give them some thought as this is my take on what I have observed in my short time on here. I am not divorcing PSAR,,, I am just not posting on the thread any more unless I see a compelling reason to change my mind,, as it is no longer fun for me . Hope to see some PSAR members on the Sand in the upcoming year.
Best Regards,
Randy B
