Probably going to get a set of radios while SWMBO and I are out running around this week and am undecided if I want this add on or not.
I have helmet mounted FRS radios with earphones and voice activated mics.

They make accessory mike and earphones for the FRS/GMRS radios (I have 4 of them). I have the lapel mikes but I remember there being a boom set up for them too.
Yeah, I've seen the boom mics and the kind that mount in the closed face helmets. I'm just wondering if anyone has found them to be a practical and often used accessory or one of those trick things that end up in a drawer somewhere. Got enough unjused junk around already.
I use the ear bud and lapel mike with the PPT (Press To Transmit or talk) all the time when hunting. Then the only noise from the radio is in my ear instead of scaring the game. You can set my RINO 120s for VOX (Voice Activated Xmit) instead PPT, which would be better on the quad than the PPT (unless you mounted the switch on the handle bars). I had an intercom back when still rode motorcycles that had ear pieces and boom mikes inside the helmet and was VOX and they worked fine. But I still like the PPT system better and if I helmet install an earphone and mike I will probably wire up a PPT switch on the handle bars for my left thumb.

I've thought about going to PPT since when I really get on the throttle, my bike is loud enough to open the circuit.

If you wanna go to elbe you can follow me up... It's is not to hard to find but I will be headed up anyway.
Word of advice if you're gonna ride with Rancher ladies: He has 2 speeds, unloading and throttle pinned. I know utes don't go too fast but if you don't let off on the throttle....
Actually I have 3 speeds unloading, throttle pinned and waiting for you sporties to catch up
Oh and 4th gear: not making it up that road, in the snow, behind the stroker quad.
Wow you was home and talkin smack by 3:45 and I honked at you across the street from Ritchie bro's when you was walkin over to get some lunch at the farmboy. or whatever that red shack is. someone was walkin with ya. I barely had time to realize it was you and honk by the time i was passed ya'll. had a truck load of puppies and peoples that had been on the road since 5am so ranch bound i was for lunch and to let the dogs out.
I figured you were busy, but told slomoe it was the cowboy. Andy is an operater now. He backed a D-7 off the trailer and parked it. I bought him lunch, but he wouldn't drive home.

I was wondering about outside noise. You and Bear both mention the PPT on the handlebars but I still wonder about how often a person is going to be using a radio while actually on the move. With the VOX we had on some FM headset units we used when testing AC equipment you would often hear the other person as they would grunt or pound on something. Don't know if I really want to hear the screams and OH S - - - type of thing from the rest of the group. Or subject them to my earthy comments on occasion.

We looked @ some that came w/ the ear buds & sat in craddles for charging along w/ battery back up but we didn't want to spend that much on them the ones we did get were marked down from $119 to $29.99 so that's why I got them!!! They do have a plug in for mic, chrg or speaker I just seen, another cool little addition is they have a little flashlight built right in!! they came w/ belt clips they are audiovox modle # GMRS1262 I also see on the bottom of them that they have the little metal charging pieces on them so looks as though they could be charged on a charger also??? Not for sure though Got them @ Big 5
WELL IT'S ABOUT TIME Ya know I was looking @ the reciept & it said "incorrectly priced" haha I hope these are good ones, we bought some years back @ radio shack & they were "OK" but of course got lost, from kids using htem camping ect.

Sounds like I better run down to the Big 5 and see if they have any in stock. Thanks DM.
NO prob, the ones that came w/ earbuds, chargers were $149 I think or $119 for 2
DM I think you got the deal of the week. The GMRS1262 like you bought were not supposed to be on sale according to the manager of the local Big 5. The ones they have on sale are the GMRS862CH. The original price tag is $119.99 and on sale for $29.99 just as you stated. You must have found a set that had been improperly marked. The range on the 862 is 8 miles rather than the 12 miles yours have.

Even with the reduced range I bought three sets of these for the kids over at the farm. May use one set for awhile just to see how much I would use these radios.

You got a really good deal!

Edit: Looked on the Big 5 web site and all the stores in the area are advertising the 8 mile unit. I may be taking these back however because for dang little extra I can get a much better radio at Fry's. Your 12 mile unit has a lot more features.
