where to ride in pa
Hey Wayne B,
I just got back from Allegheny N.F. in north Western PA. If you really want a smooth ride, they have a section called Timberline Trail. They called it their "easiest" portion. I didn't find it any easier or harder but it was alot easier of the fanny! It was one of the smoothest trail systems I've been on. Their other sections of trails vary greatly. There's another section called "Rocky Gap". The loop south of the parking lot is very smooth. The loop north from the parking lot has one section so bad I wish I hadn't started out on it. Its one fairly difficult, rocky, bouldery, hill climb. Its not very high or even very steep for that matter but I almost outweigh my ATV so it can be a little difficult going up over steep rocks. I had to walk it up about half the way. Then theres this drop: its only about 2 1/2 feet but its straight down.
Well anyways, the southern half of Rocky Gap was a nice little run and a nice way to break up 2 days of riding at Timberline. Timberline was the best though. Also, connected to the Timberline Trails was the Marienville Trails. There is a bike section which is marked more difficult. I didn't get to see it because it was closed due to a reecent storm and alot of trees down. However, the section in the middle, between Timberline and the "Bike Only" portion was not bad at all. I think one hill was a little steep, but not difficult at all.
All in all, it made for a nice vacation in Allegheny N.F.
