MASS-October Mt vs. Pittsfield Forest
Of all the parks in Western Mass, I like Savoy the best. I love the mud and there is a ton of it up there. There are some holes that I haven't seen anyone get through . . . yet! Once again though, given the right trails up there, you don't hit a huge amount of mud and can make a nice ride outof it.
As far as Beartown, there aren't that many trails there. I believe there is only about 20 miles, for now. It is nice riding. Half the loop is pretty easy, nice and mild, and the other half gets pretty boney.
October seems to be my mountain of choice this year. I think I have riden there the most. As far as that long uphill climb on loose rock, I know where that is. It is a little hairy. There are trails which aren't so boney. (Acqeduct, Ashley Lake just to name a few.)
Pittsifled is my least favorite. It gets the most use, and the trails are getting pretty wide. Brickhouse is a very good trail (you are in an old river bed, not too boney or steep). Also, at the very beginning of Skyline (where you can cross the Route 20 to head into NY, right into Hancock), there are some good trails, not used much. There is some off-camber stuff there though. Not a lot, but some could be a little tricky if you don't like steep inclines.
I'll post links, after I find it, to some maps of the different parks. Then, I'll highlight some trails for you, if ya want.
