Spillway improvement (LA)
#1
Just thought I would let you all in the New Orleans area know that we (South La. Trailblazers) had the use of bulldozer for the weekend. During that time, most of the trails in Area 2 (the wooded area on the north side) were widened and some newer trails made. On these new trails, there are some nice jumps. It is actually FUN to ride a sport bike in Area 2, where as, normally, it was reserved for 4x4's due to the mud. Now, you can actually bypass all the mud!
Anyways, just wanted to keep you all posted. I don't think we have any other club members that post here.
Here are some pics http://www.krawdaddy.net/atv/spillway_nov_01_03.htm
If any of you all go out, or want to go out for the first time, let me know.

the Spillway is just west of New Orleans. From MS the easiest (what is easy in New Orleans traffic?) is to go thru N.O. past the airport, as you get on the bridge (raised part of I-10) in you will enter St Charles Parish, the next exit is I-310. Take it to the first exit (exit 2 I think) the airport/Kenner/Norco exit, go west on (think the signs say north) on Airline Hwy thru Destrehan, and you will end up in Norco. Can't miss it. Tons of refineries. Before you get on top of the levy and raised seciton of road, there are signs on the left and right, take the left and follow the signs to the parking lot.
As far as marked trail mileage, I can't honestly say. They all split. The first trail in the wooded area goes 2 ways, if you go right, it goes to a 3 way, then from there, different ways. I would GUESSTIMATE about 10 miles? Thing is, you ride one, the the other. There is mud, well, was mud. It's kinda dry now.
The wooded area is Area 2, on the north side of Airline, the lake side. On the south side, Area 1, the river side, it is all open. There is a nice multi turn track with high bermed turns, sandy areas, a big halfpipe that just got built, drag lanes and more open trails. Area 1 is usually better on sport bikes, Area 2 on Utilities. But it is so dry now, you can ride your Sport anywhere.
I have pics of the differenet areas on my site, and you can find a map on the club site.
where is flying fork? are you meaning Flying W? If so, I think they closed that one
I don't know if it would be worth the drive over from Florida, but it is a fun place to play, and the only one in the area. It's about 8 miles from my house and I live right by the airport, so it's about 20 from downtown New Orleans. I think there will be a few club members out this weekend doing some work. I usually go out during the week on my days off. I'll usually be the only one there, but on the weekends, there are tons of people. Lots of dirtbikes too.

I love the spillway it is a blast to ride. The wooded area rocks... tight curvy trails that can be fun on a sport.... yes it is muddy at times but the good thing about it is it is sandy dirt it washes off ez...lol. The club that Kraw is in has done a great job there IMO ( not kissing @$$ just calling it as I see it) lol. last time I was there about a month ago they had just completed a MX track for the kids. it seems everytime we go there is something new to explore. A good day of riding there will leave you worn out with a grin on tha face. I need to hit it soon to check out the new trails...I will try to post when we go maybe a few people can hook up for a ride we usually have 5 bikes that go.

yeah, forgot to mention that. There is a new MX track for kids ONLY. It's pretty nice!
We had our meeting last night, BIG things in store next year.
I'm not sure what my YIM is, I don't use it much, I'll add you when I get home. I think it's something like lilblakv8dak
I don't get to go every weekend, since I work weekends. I go when I can. The wife and I will be out this saturday after 1500.
