Hello,

I just got myself an ATV. I'm looking for interesting places to ride near the Las Vegas area. I heard about Valley of Fire state park, anyone been there before? What do you think? Any good riding area near blue diamond?

We were out there last year and saw a cool looking place to ride near the NASCAR track. I think it was the next exit past the racetrack.

 

The APEX is a great area to ride, if you have someone to go with go past the truck stop at the valley of fire, about 6 miles past there you will see a dirt road going straight, go down that road. It is a beautiful area and the wardens won't bother you as long as you are on the dirt roads. Reason I say go with a friend is if anything happens you're isolated.

 

One of the magazines had an article recently about Valley of Fire. Anybody remember which one???

 

First of all, thanks for the replies. I read about it on atvnews. Reconranger, I don't know if it's the same one you saw. There's an article there about Valley of fire - Logandale trail system. In Vegas, I saw a lot of advertising about ATV adventure tours given in that area. I'm a first time rider. Only been practicing in the backyard. I'll be riding with my 12 year-old daughter. So, I'm looking for a more established ATV area just to be on the safe side.

 

Have you Vegas folks discovered Rasor Rd.???? It is two exits after Baker, Ca on the I-15. A little bit of everything! Nice dunes, fast sand flats, Afton Canyon, trails in the hills, dry lake bed, etc. The road into the riding area got washed out this summer in the flash floods, but you can park out near the freeway and ride in.

Thanks for link. Looks like a nice place to ride. ....a real dumb question. What's a "green sticker" and how do I get one? I guess the backyard training is not good enough for my kid. I'll have to find how to get the "ATV safety certificate of completion". Do they really enforce that?

 

There are a lot of trails on highway 95 south of Boulder city the whole eldorado valley is a off road area. There are trails in the nelson hills area also behind the casinos in jean a dry lake bed and trails. There is a small sand dune are at Nellis and trails the are some of us from the area going there saturday afternoon have only rode in that area once last year. The logandale trails are a nice place to ride only about a hour drive from Vegas. Also Armogsa dune is on highway 95 about 100 miles north of Vegas.

 

Green stickers are just the registration method in California. Green = full year riding. Red = Reduced riding time due to emissions. Green/Red Stickers function as a license plate. If you registered your ATVs (or any OHV) in Nevada then you are probably covered. Otherwise you will need to get a non-resident registration from CA DMV.

Hey ozark88 I was looking through some old posts and read this one. If you decide to go to CA and ride you can get your green sticker in Henderson on lake mead at Proshop Motorsports. Its a boat place that sells Bombardiers, nice folks.
As far as riding in Valley of Fire SP you can't because its a state park. But Logandale Trails is County and looks very similar to VOF and has some great riding. I just got my boy whos 5 a little dirt bike for Christmas and I take him out to the lake bed near Jean and its wide open and pretty safe area. Nellis dunes are Ok, theres alot of litter out there which is kind of a turn off but lots of skill building hills to ride. theres also alot of old mining roads to go and explore near Boulder city and Nelson that are fun to see. Then come summer when its to Blasted hot to ride head to Utah and ride the Piute and Duck creek areas. As far as sand dunes Armagosa is about 100 miles north towards Beatty and its a fun area with out the crowds and permits of CA. hope it helps, feel free to PM if you need Directions, or have other questions.
