So Cal. - Cactus Flats
After some questioning, I discovered that the USFS rangers don't even know the status of their trails. I know people ride quads from Pioneer Town to Big Bear all the time. I've never heard of anybody getting cited for it. The only person I know of who got cited was the knucklehead who was low on gas. In an effort to find a gas station, he got himself through Erwin Lake, went onto SR-38 near Hatchery Road, and rode into Big Bear City at 55 mph, with the other traffic.

Sounds like an awsome adverture.

If you know the route, you can get from Pioneertown all the way to Crab Flats. Now that would be an adventure.

Heck, why stop at Crab Flats. We can all end at your house, Chris .
No, seriously, if you want to do it, I can put the route together, but this kind of ride poses some logistic challenges (fuel, transport back, etc.). This may be more fun to do as a mutiple day ride with pre-placed fuel. This sounds like a really cool late spring camping ride for a utility quad.

I've tried to find my way from the Holcomb Valley area to Cactus Flats. I havn't been able to find the way. One time I crossed hwy 18 right at the Mitsubishi plant and tried to find a way that way w/o sucess.
I'm too chicken to ride up hwy 18 and go in that way.

You ever notice there's trails leading up the mountain on the west side of SR-18, at Cactus Flats? I'm thinking there's got to be a way to get up and over that mountain, and down to 3N16 where Holcomb Valley Road dead-ends (you know, right at the county dump). As a crow flies, this isn't a very long distance. Then it's an easy shot through Holcomb Valley to Crab Flats.
