CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....

Ahhhhhhh, street legal atvs You might want to check out these sites. Looks like Ca. does have a problem with Arizona registration. Sorry, if I added to the confusion
Non-Resident Permit: As of January 1, 1998 you will need to purchase a special "Non-Resident OHV Permit" if you are not a California resident AND your off-highway vehicle or snowmobile is not registered in your home state. An Arizona “RV” plate is not registration and is not valid for OHV’s being used in California. For Arizona OHV information, visit the Arizona State Parks website at Arizona OHV information. To find out where these Non-Resident OHV Permits can be purchased and to get more information on the program, please contact a local Ranger or contact the OHMVR Division at:

I was under the impression that I will not need a green sticker or a out of state permit if the Quad is registered for the street in Arizona. IE: it has to have a horn , mirrors, brake lights and has a motorcycle plate on it. It has to go through a state inspection and is registered the same a as a motorcycle. I know of a lot of guys that run the dunes in Yuma with only motorcycle plate. In AZ I can ride the quad to work if I want (of course this a state where golf carts are also allowed to drive on the street.) I will need to check this out a little more but seems worse case is I will need an out of state permit which I can purchase here.

Sail, CA doesn't recognise ATVs with out of state street legal plates. There are only a handful of street legal ATVs in CA, and that was stopped as of 1/1/04. No new ones were allowed. They allowed already registered vehicles to remain. AZ is probably the most lax state in the US regarding dual-sporting ATVs.

Sail, Got to agree with BR&W on Arizona being lax about atvs. Wish Ca. was in a way I would call California State Parks @ 916-324-4442 to get your questions answered. Good luck

700KING, Welcome to the forum
I don't ride in that area. If I ever make it that way, I'll look you up
