Thanks for all the replies regarding Oceano vs. Glamis dunes. I had a blast at Pismo and my first sand experience was a good one that will lead to many more. Swamp and mudd'n is my bread and butter, but I definitely have to spend some more time exploring the dunes. From what I hear a 250EX is a pretty good/cheap starter sand ATV, so I'll start my search. With the 400EX, isn't it a pain in the butt to use the clutch to shift out on the dunes. Our 700's are all automatic to avoid mid mudd shifting. Thanks again for the info.

A 250EX is okay out in the dunes. Mostly see 12 y/o girls on them though... j/k about that. It's nice to be able to just stomp down on the shifter to downshift climbing a dune though. Other then that, with paddles they just don't have the power.
400ex do pretty awesome out there. I run a Warrior and I'm a little down on power to them. Just about everything out in the dunes is going to be a sport bike which pretty much means a manual tranny. Just need to shift early if you are losing speed (hill climbing). Keep the RPMs up on whatever you are riding and you'll do fine.

Patrick If you want dunes go to Oregon. If you have looked at the site the pictures are great. It was a great 10 day. I think I will never go back to Pismo. Are you going to Pismo this week end with the girls?
