CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....

If you know who QuadKaryn is she's headed out there with a group. Look for a USA & Raider flag flying on a toy box S/E of the bathrooms at the entrance to Sand Highway. White Crew cab GMC lifted. Can't miss her bike. Red 400ex w/ yellow powder coat finish. If you see her, tell her I went to Costco and it's party time. She'll know what I mean.

Baldmike, I read back a few posts that Jawbone was your favorite place to ride. Have you ridden out towards Randsburg??? Rand Moutains??? That is cool also you can climb to raido towers and see ridgecrest.....

Sorry Sandblaster, I didn't see your post until now . . .
My 13 yr old stepson has only been riding for maybe two years. He's under 5 ft. and only weighs around 85-90 lbs. The 250EX has plenty of power for him for trailriding or anything else on solid ground since he doesn't weigh anything. But, in the sand it just doesn't cut it too well. Like you said, I'm sure you'd be much happier on something more powerful like the Banshee you spoke of.
We started my stepson off with a little 90 quad, and he took to that pretty fast, but the suspension on those is ridiculous for him to try and follow us where we go. He was always rolling it. My husband felt it would actually be safer for him to have a 250EX so he can climb the hills we go on and he's never rolled it yet (knock on wood!). He keeps up really well for his size. I know the "recommendation" is nothing over a 90 if you're under 16 yrs. old, but someone your size on a 90 doesn't even make sense. I feel they're more dangerous to ride because they're underpowered and no suspension - you're more likely not to be able to make it up that hill or flip over doing it. I didn't even like the power on my old 250EX when hillclimbing. I didn't feel confident at all on that thing and my back would be killing me after riding for a half hour (from the lack of suspension). So I sold it and got the 400EX and I fly right up the hills now, no problem, and can ride all day with no sore back. I also missed using a clutch. I've been riding since I was in Jr. High - I'm 44 now.

Oh man, now I'm itchin' to go. I don't think we're going out this weekend though. Maybe in two weekends from now when we have my stepson again. Let me know if the heat is bearable up there this weekend.
I think this weekend we may head on down to San Diego . . . I've been wanting to check out that USS Midway tour/museum, plus the USS Ronald Reagan is pulling in to North Island this morning. I'm hoping I can at least get a glimpse of it from the deck of the Midway.
Have a great/safe time in Hungry Valley!
