Hey, Superman! Well from what I can gather here is some helpful information on riding at Joshua Tree: Palm Springs

Check out the other Desert USA pages for more information on campgrounds and contact information. They have basically everywhere you can ride in CA, and other states as well. Good pages at that too.

Happy Riding!

Grey water tank tip: When in unimproved camp area, often it is advantageous to dig a small pit under your flush/drain pipe and allow grey water tank to drain and soak into ground, daily if not more often. Some people have been known to leave grey water valve open continuosly, over such a pit...there is also an attachment to fit over your drain pipe that will allow you to run a small hose with grey water tank draining into , for routing to a suitable pit/whatever.

When you are going to leave the area, fill the pit back in....

Another thing you can do is buy one of those roll away tank carts, dump part or all of your grey water load and walk it to a suitable disposable area.

Oh yeah, rode Hollister Sunday. Perfect weather, no mechanical issues, and no injuries. A lot of trails had a hard blue groove making it a bit rough. Track was smooth and fast. Park was hardly crowded at all. Lower "new" area not yet permitted or dug. $5 instead of $4, They wanted to see every vehicle entering park, making us open back door to trailer....exhaust and tag inspection..

But had a great ride. Quads hauled up widowmaker hill like it was nothing.

Next trip, the Reno Air Races in Sept.

A few months back, we were looking for riding in Palm Springs area too, but wasted an entire day looking. All the places we had heard of were shut down. Everyone who saw our trailer with the quads on it immediately started wagging their finger at us and telling us we're not allowed to ride anywhere around there. So we haven't been back - that sucked! Even the place we used to ride at out in Beaumont is all closed down now. There was also a cool place to ride just 10 mins. from our house off the 15 fwy, kind of near where Tom's Farms is . . . can't ride there anymore either. The cops keep kicking everyone out and giving tickets. Yeah, such a crime!

Good grey tank tip! I didn't know you were allowed to do that. Have to try it next time we're out in the middle of nowhere.

Bud,

What is this "Lower 'new' area" you speak of at Hollister?

"New" area at Hollister, Over the last year the ranger and park staff at Hollister have been talking about a new section they are trying to add to the Hollister SRVA. From what I've heard, and there may be some mention of the internet link for the Hollister SRVA, an adjacent tract of land has been identified as an area they want to expand into.

I just got off the phone with an employee from Hollister Hills and she said that the area they are activley constructing will double the acreage at Hollister Hills lower ranch, when it opens, eventually. One of the problems is that there are Lawsuits trying to impead the progess, but they do expect those issues to be resolved so that they can open the new area.....

From what I've also heard, these new trails would be thru more rolling hills, rather than the upper trails in Hollister, and therefore flatter and sweeping, and might be particluarly well suited for Quads.... One can only hope.

OK, I know what you are talking about. I remember reading that the state purchased some surrounding land around the SVRA...I want to say something like 1,500 acres. I assumed they bought it as a buffer zone. I know the land owners around there seem to be mighty quick with the lawsuit. That's why the park is so proactive on sound issues.

It will be cool if/when they get that area set up. Hopefully people will stay on the trails. That could be some fun areas to really let it hang out on though. I like the Adobe section for a more relaxed ride. Just to kinda sit back in cruise...or just flat out fly when it's open.
