I would like to take my quad out for the first time this weekend to ride the trails in western Mass, I would like to stay overnight, can anyone suggest which trail is suitable for a beginner and also what accomodations are availible in the area? (something nice and romantic) Are there any group rides planned? i want to surprise the wifey with a little weekend getaway.

Why not go to the White Mountains in NH. Plenty of places to stay in North Conway area. You can drive your quad up Mt Washington. Heard it was a really nice ride. I'm sure your wife would like it.

Do you have to register to ride in NH? and if so how long does it take? and where do you have to go to do it?

There are three State Parks in Western, MA that have ATV legal trails. The two primary ones are October Maintain State Park and Pittsfield State Park. You can also camp in these parks. The other ATV legal state park is Bear@#$%^& (something) in the southwest most corner of the state. I have not riden in any of them but my understanding is both October Mountain and Pittsfield are good while the other one just doesn't have as much to offer ATVers. Good Luck and enjoy.

Well, I know this topic is a little bit old, but I know my fair share about western mass ATV riding. As the others have said the three main legal parks to ride your ATV in are the Pittsfield State Forest (this being the biggest with many trails that are well taken care of), October Mountain, and Beartown State Forest. I've ridden all three and for a beginner I would recommend Pittsfield. October Mountain and Beartown are very rocky rides, but all the trails are very fun. About your lodging, the city of Pittsfield itself is not too far away and you should be able to find something nice there. Also, if you're interested in this there's a club that rides these three state forests at different periods during the year and they sponsor a poker run (or at least they used to) at PSF. This would be a good way to get aquainted with the area. I believe the fee to join is $20? and you're a member for two years with that. Any other questions, I'd be glad to answer if I can help.
