Going to Hatfield and McCoy in a couple weeks
Hey! My girlfriend and I are going to W. Virginia to go white water rafting and we have decided at the last minute to take the quads down and go riding at Hat field and McCoy I guess I am posting this to get some help on where we might want to try and stay and what part of the trial would you guys recommend that we ride. We both ride alot here in michigan on trials and at Silver Lake sand dunes. There are a ton of trials I can see by researching it but want to see some cool sights and ride some good trails. Also, what would you recommend that we take with us to make our trip go smooth. I thank you in advance and looking forward to getting your responses. We are both pumped about this trip. We ride sport quads so not sure if that would hinder us from riding in certain areas. I am not sure so that is why I have asked for your guys or girls help.

If you are going Whitewater Rafting, I would guess the closest trailhead would be the Castlerock Trailhead on the Pinnacle Creek Trails.
Go to the HM web site, under trailstatus about us to see a map and driving directions. From Whitewater country it should be no more than an hour away. It is located in Pineville, WV.
Enjoy.

Plan on riding some long steep hills and seeing some awesome views. if you ride in Man, Gilbert, or Williamson you can just drive into town and refuel the bikes and grab some lunch so it limits what all you need to carry. A digital Camera, water and some snacks are always helpful. You may want to try and stick to the green and blue trails as most black trails are VERY difficult on a sport quad (if you are bring the Raptor that is...). You do need trail permits, helments, and eye protection. Also they do not allow riding double, if you were kicking that around (plus the hills and ruts can make that a little tricky)
Enjoy the trip!
- Oh - Fayetteville is a nice area and their is a ton of rafting outftters there right outside the park.

One other thing - if you can get your permits BEFORE you get there you maybe better off. The Rangers are not at the trailheads all day and sometimes local store do run out. Maybe worth checking on the web site and having a list of places that sell them if you can not get them before you leave. Hate to see ya get down here then have to run all around trying to the permit...

THanks for all the info guys... We are pumped. I hae been down there white water rafting with Songers now for the third time and have heard about these trails while down there and finally have a little vaction left to make it an extended trip. Looking up the different trail heads and thinking about Man. Only going for two days as it stands but will be buying the week permit so who knows, it may be extended. Hopefully get to know the place and get some more info while down there and come back and get a large group of my riding buddies to go back down. Thanks again guys.

Good idea on the permits. You can order them on-line I know that.
Man is a nice town, but if you've never ridden an atv before, it might be best to work your way up to the trail system that is near Man.
Little Coal River or Pinnacle Creek are the two best for a newbie.
just my two cents.
