Mud,
Ok, I kind of thought that you may have stayed in either place but, wanted to make for sure. I can understand where you are coming from, especially staying at either of those places. The same person owns both and you are 100% right, they are far from being the ritz, by any means. Not only that, the majority of gas/oil drillers stay there and alcohol is always an issue. The atmosphere is not pleasant, it is worse at the mountain rather than the cowshed. The tattoo shop at the Mountain dosent portray the best group of people lurching around outside. In that part of town you cant expect much considersing you have a gentlemans club in between the two and a nightclub overlooking the cowshed. I didnt necessarly think that you were trying to discourage anyone, I was just in shock when I read your response. Actually, I had someone call me from Florida that is comming down to ride, just to ask me if he needed to bring a gun. I was, of course, speechless at the time and asked him what he was talking about. He directed me to the website where I read for my self, and I thought that maybe I had missed some pretty important stuff going on in town. Once again, I am sorry on behalf of the sophisicated parts of town, that you cut your vacation short. When you work hard all year round, you are supposed to relax while on vacation.
Thanks,
K

I'll throw my 2 cents in...

I was in Pineville in May of this year and stayed at the campground closest to the trailhead. I can't recall the name and for a gravel parking lot, calling it a campground was a faaaaaar stretch. But for full RV hookups, I guess you cant always be in the wilderness...

Anyways... no rumors, no assaults, no one bothered any of our stuff. It was a good experience all in all.

Rob

This thread sure was a big suprise. I recently stayed in Pineville and never once got the impression that walking around town that I was in any kind of danger, sure I locked my quads up but thats common sense and I understand your concern there. As for the accomodations, my son and I stayed at the Happy Trails ATV Cabins and found them to be very nice. They were clean, inexpensive and within a couple of miles of the Castle Rock TH so that might be a spot for you to consider if you decide to ever go back. Sorry that you got spooked/unnerved by the comments of certain individuals in town, its really a shame you had to cut short your vacation too.
