Default Glamis - how bad do you need paddles for a one day trip?

May be heading to Glamis for a night/day trip. I ride a 400ex stock and my kids each have TRX 250's.

How badly will I need paddles?

I typically ride Ocotillo for you So Cal people so I am used to a little sand but have never been to the dunes. Not sure I want to make a $500 investment just yet if I don't plan on heading out there very often.

Appreciate your help.

If it's anything like Silver Lake Dunes in Michigan I would highly recommend a set of paddles. Even the cheapie Cheng **** paddles I ran the first year were sufficient and far better than the Holeshots that my one friend tried to use out there. He gave in after a few hours and headed over to the dune shop for a set of paddles.

For one day, it isn't worth the expense. Air down your stock tires some, and maybe don't try any huge stuff. If you decide you like it and want to go back (in spite of the crowds!), then you can get some paddles......

I agree...they arent really that necesary. Just remember, you need to stop, pointing downhill if posible. And stay away from the steep stuff, but if you have kids along, you probably wouldnt hit the steep ones anyway. Just air down, to like a pound or two, and have fun.

If you still have the balooney stock tires on the 250's, air them down some and they do real well in sand....but terrible everywhere else!

No, you and I had this discussion a while back. First thing I did was change out those balloons and get some real tires for those 250's.

just air down the stock tires and you will be fine as others have mentioned..also avoid the large steep hills/dunes.

I have purposely put on my stockers with low pressure and taken off the paddles for fun group rides. Typically you can slide more and not pelt the rider in your draft with as much sand.
