Actually, I was thinking of having no skidplate on my swinger, Rod and I were talking about it yesterday and he reminded me you don't have one on your trail quad. Have you had any problems without one? I was thinking out in this terrain with the poker run, a skidplate may not be that much of a issue.</end quote></div>

Haven't had any trouble running with no skidplate on my Z400. I couldn't find one to fit my aftermarket swinger and gave up on it.
I also have 22" tires and I make sure to pay attention of obstacles to not drag my chain and rotor over rocks and such.

I've had it on my battery tender, actually a float charger, that's for my batterys amperage, it just seems the battery won't hold a charge with the tender. I can jump the battery with the car battery to get the quad started, but once I turn the quad off, the battery just clicks many times, fast. I think this 3yr old battery just doesn't want to hold a charge and needs to be dumped.</end quote></div>

Your battery is toast Mister 3 yrs. is pretty good for a yamaha LOL we go thru them yearly w/ the YFZ!! Good Morning PSAR

Hap, is suspect your battery has been fried by the charger. I have never found a charger that I could leave on any battery, even the big 8-D's we use in tractors, that would not fry them over the course of a winter. What I do for battery maintenance is buy the little cheap 1 amp chargers that usually destroy a battery if left on them. I plug these into a timer that will turn them on for a limited time each day. For big batteries an hour works well, for pickup and car size batteries half an hour. For the little batteries 15 minutes is plenty. I usually unhook the quad and lawnmower batteries for a couple of weeks each month. I've tried the "really good" battery maintainers that are supposed to watch the voltage and turn on the charger as needed. Had one on the boat that was supposed to maintain all four batteries, each on it's own circuit. Had to replace all four batteries and two of them were new the previous year.

Just putting the battery where it won't freeze up if it does discharge and checking the voltage every few weeks with a little recharge as needed would probably be the best you can do. With the timer system I get several years out of lawnmower batteries. The Prairie gets used year round so it's not an issue but the cold weather doesn't seem to bother it's starting right up.

Nother clear and cold morning, 22 deg at 5 and up to 33 now. Heat wave!

You all have fun at the poker run.

Mike

March 13, 2009 - On March 11, 2009, the House of Representatives failed to pass S. 22, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act that would ban OHV access to over two million acres of public lands. ARRA members sent thousands of letters to the House opposing this legislation. We commend you for your hard work and dedication!

As you know, this legislation includes 160 public lands measures including the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Act. The bill would create more than two million acres of wilderness while authorizing dozens of studies for potential parks, protected rivers and historical landmarks in addition to statutorily establishing the NLCS. The NLCS consists of 26 million acres of specially designated Bureau of Land Management lands and if codified by law would almost certainly lead to these lands being managed in a more restrictive manner.

Though this is a positive step for OHV access on public lands, our work is never done. While the bill failed to pass, a majority of Representatives voted in favor of passage by a count of 282-144. Since S. 22 was brought up as a "suspension bill" to thwart the possibility of amendments, it needed a 2/3 majority to pass. The House may decide to bring this bill up again in the coming weeks and allow amendments to be introduced in order to only require a simple majority for passage.

ARRA will again ask for your help if this legislation comes up for another vote. Remember, it is more important than ever for you to stay involved and urge your Representative to oppose this NLCS legislation, as this victory demonstrates that your voices are being heard.

Well, like I said before, it's not dead from 3 yrs of use, only has 30 running hrs on it, that's probably the problem. I'm gonna take it down to Shucks, per Rod, get them to test it. If it's toast, I'll ride the Lazy Boy on the Poker Run

Thanks to everybody for their input on this matter

Pretty soon you won't have to worry about his tickets, he won't have a license. Isn't he 18?
