GLAMIS - Presidents Weekend 08 - Anyone Going?
#1
We have a small group going out on Presidents weekend and I am sure that we will one again have an awesome time. However, it would be nice to try hooking up with a larger group so that we can set up a larger camp.
This will be our third trip and we can't seem to get enough of it. We love the sand!
I would really like to talk with some seasoned campers to find out about the best campsite, setups etc.
Let us know your thoughts.

I have some friends heading out there that weekend too, but I'm not too much of a fan of the big weekends... I stay out of the washes and camp at pad 1...

It would seem that the washes is preferred by most? See link to ASA thread http://www.americansandassocia...viewtopic.php?t=23318
I have never stayed there... We usually camp Dune Buggy flats or Oglby.
Also, I have heard that the dunes east of Gecko had a lot of dangerous hills with shear east side drop-offs. Is this true?

i know about that. as a general duning rule you always hit the top sideways not stright on. i like camping by the canal before gecko. it is easy to get to the drag in the later hours and a nice ride to the hill through the dune in the morning. if you park in the flats the duneing to the hill it not as good and in the later hours alot of people dont want to ride all the way to the drags.

Like Bigned says never hit the top of the dune head on unless you know what is on the other side. Just roll over the top into the next bowl ridding with the ridge. Then if it turns out to be a nice jump you want to hit come back around for it. Also it gets your flag up above the dune before you are. That way if somene comes flying over the top there is a chance you would be missed.
