Since the state of CT will do nothing to provide a place to ride, an idea has come up for the second time about a private owner. But this owner already has the permits, tracks and land. All he needs (or did need) was a large commitment of riders willing to pay for its use.

About 2 years ago, the NEATVA (now split into NEATVA-MX and NEATVA-trail) contacted the owner of the CT River Motocross track. This is a private facility, which only allows bikes, located in Rocky Hill, CT. We were so close to having this guy built a track for quads only, but the bottom feel out when the money was needed. He wanted 12 grand to built the track, the club figured out that 50 people could put up $250 each. These 50 people would receive a season pass (approx same value) for the practice track. But as I said, only a few people actually came up with the money, so the owner backed out.

Until recently, nothing has been said nor heard about this place. But a friend of mine recently sent an email to the owner asking for him to reconsider. A copy of the email can be found at the bottom of this post. This friend was the main man behind the effort 2 years ago. I will be sending an email to the owner as well, and I urge all of you to do the same. With enough support, maybe CT will have its own practice track for quads. Here is the owner’s email. ctmotox@motocross.com

Please be very polite and state (within reason) how many people you know that would be interested in having a quad only track. Even a weekday would be better than nothing at all.
Good Evening,
I was wondering what your policy is going to be in regards to Quads on the track in 2001? I have personally talked to you in the past about the possibility of building a Quad only track and to say the results were a disaster would be an understatement. At the time I agreed with your idea that Dirtbikes and Quads do not mix but my thoughts on this have changed in 2000. Several of us from the Worcester area have been making the 2.5 hour trip to Eagle Bridge MX in Eagle Bridge NY ( www.ebmx.net ), and the 6 hour trip to Jack Frost in Pennsylvania ( www.jackfrostbigboulder.com/motocross.html ) which are practice tracks similar to yours which allow Quads full time and in fact welcome them due to their "free grooming services." Bikes and Quads have been riding at these places together for several years with seemigly no ill effects. Also in 2001, Uxbridge Motorsports Park in Uxbridge MA ( www.uxbridgemsp.com ) which is local for me will be opening for quads on a limited basis (all Mondays or advance notice only).
As an ATV enthusiast, I would like to encourage you to please re-think your 2000 policy towards ATV's as this market is expanding everyday. Yamaha has just come out with the Raptor 660R, Cannondale has just come out with the FX400, and both Suzuki and Kawasaki are planning on releasing Sport Quads in the VERY near future. I encourage you to talk to the owners of the above practice tracks (especially EBMX) about the compatability of Quads and Dirtbikes and I hope that you will consider opening your facility to Quads, even on a limited basis. I think you'd be surprised as to the response you will get from the ATVing community if you opened your doors to us.
Sincerely,
Stephen

Even if you are not from CT but have positive experience with bikes and quads on the same track, let this owner know. Anything positive will help.

Here is a copy of the email I sent. The more emails this guy gets, the more likely he will be willing to let us ride.

About 2 years ago, the NEAVTA club approached you about building a quad practice track. I was involved in this process and one of the few that was willing to front the money for the track. It still saddens me that the deal fell through.
I participate in a few ATV related forums on the internet. This past month, the topic of riding areas in CT has been discussed. Many riders from across the state, and our border states, have expressed an interest in a local legal riding area. Recently, you received an email regarding quads and the CT River Motocross. I have been on the trips mentioned to Eagle Bridge, NY and Jack Frost in PA. Both places allow quads to ride the tracks with the bikes. Everyone seemed to get along and have a safe enjoyable time.
While the tradition at CT River Motocross has been a bike only policy, I am sending this email to asking you to give the quad riders another chance. Whether in the form of a weekday co-ride or even a separate track just for quads. I will be posting your website and email address on the internet ATV forums, hopefully you will see the number of quad riders willing to ride your facility is quite large.
As mentioned in the email, the manufactures are making a return to sport quads. Our MX race series in New England has truly grown to where we have three tracks and 12 race dates throughout the summer. Talks have already started about having a national race held at Southwick MA. Hopefully you can profit from the amount of sport quads sold in the CT area and lack of riding areas. And we can have a place to ride.
