Tom,
Where are you? I'm in Newport News. So far I've been riding at Slades off of Hwy 10 just up from Smithfield. It's a private area that the owner has set up for ATVs and bikes, though there are a few areas for 4 x 4's. It's pretty busy on the weekends and there are no "rules." So you have to be careful. But it's the best place I've found around here. There's a $10 fee per ATV/Bike. If you'd like better directions just let me know and I'll provide.

You're invited to Quads, On-the-Rocks!, April 21, leaving from the Tasker's Gap ATV parking lot, Route 675 3 miles SE of Edinboro, VA (off I-81), at 10:00 a.m.; ride the rocky trails of George Washington National Forest; free, helmet, spark arrestor required, no double riding. Ramada Inn Woodstock (540) 459-5000 is "headquarters" motel, ask for the QOTR rates. Free camping available in GWNF; commercial campsite ("Creekside") in Edinboro.
On April 22, the Little Fort Trail Ride (AMA-sanctioned; AMA membership (join at registration) and fee required) stages from Little Fort Recreation Area, also in George Washington National Forest. Trophies! Lunch! E-mail me for a flyer.
Or, just come up to Tasker's Gap anytime; trails are open year round. Driving directions and trail map at Northern Virginia Trail Riders' website, www.nvtr.org

Hello Tree Farmer,
Been a long winter, and not seeing anything from you.
Just wanted to tell you, we visited Taskers Gap today and it was much better than I remembered from last year.
Maybe it is because we did not get worn out south of 675 before we headed north on the trail like we did last year.
We went to the ATV parking sign right after crossing the creek at the north end.
Really loved it today, one comment, one of our riders went over the wrong side of the nasty rut about 2/3 way to the north end, he wound upside down in the mud, not injured but real muddy.
We tried all the mud holes we could find along the way, some interesting holes.
Good to see your still around,
Smile!

Sprint Pusher, I hope you left some rocks at Tasker's Gaps for the rest of us to play on later!
Join us in April if you can. Today, the Northern Virginia Trail Riders went on a club ride in the Wilderness, Spotsylvania County. A private land, invitation-only affair, tank-of-gas length over logging roads, forest trails, clear-cut (watch those stumps!), and some mud-and-stream. Four quads (450 ES, Bayou 300 4X4, Quadzilla, and a 325 cc 4-stroke Polaris), ten dirt bikes participated; magnificent terrain, weather, and ride.
NVTR plans a club ride near Gettysburg, PA, around the 4th of July; part of the "entertainment" is attending sprint car races in the area; maybe we'll see you there.
