You don't have to worry about the flag unless you go to Silver Lake and I think, St. Helen Motor Sport Area. If you come to Michigan to ride the trails, you will not be charged a fee, except at The Mounds, in Flint($7.00). You must have a permit from Michigan, to ride the trails here and the permits can be purchased at Meijer Stores or K-Mart, for $16.25. Or you can get them at the nearest DNR Office. Hope to see everyone at the Poker Run, in Hulbert, Mi., July 13th. and 14th. Don't forget your insect spray, the deer ticks will eat you up...

Ex,

Just got off the phone with the local DNR who claims anybody registered in WI. does not need an ORV sticker over here. Appreciate the post describing Goodman and would be anxious to hear about any other trails you've been on.E-mail me anytime. Thanks, John

Chuck,

Your reply came up just as mine was posting. Hard to tell if my info is correct as our local DNR has no trails in its jurisdiction. Not sure if I met you at the last MATVA meeting; see you in Hulbert. John

Twelve bucks is nothing.

Hi John, I think we had a face to face anyway, at one of the meetings (MATVA). Yes, those from out of State will be required to get a Michigan, ORV Sticker, if they want to ride Michigan Trails. I'm still not sure about the flag for St. Hellen Motor Sport Area. Maybe someone else can answer.
John, do you want to ride with us in the Poker Run or have you, your own group already?

Chuck,

I'm trying to get eveybody to the hotel by 9 on Friday a.m. to hit the trail by 10. One couple is coming in from Goodman, WI. that morning and don't want to make their day too long by starting too early. We've got quite a mix of riding styles in our group and one speed limitation in a 4WD 250 Timberwolf. I'll probably take up the rear to make sure everyone's O.K. and haul all the food/drinks,gas,tools,clothes,etc. Since this route is pretty straight forward and I've given eveybody a detailed map; I'm hoping we can all ride at our own pace to the next stop(also have radios). Would enjoy riding with you guys that first day but not sure the starting time or pace would be convenient for you(what I'd like to do is hook up with the gentleman you rode with last year and REALLY see the area). Probably hit Pat/Toby's first for lunch, then maybe up Strong's road to Strongs,Curn's, and back down the RR grade to the Bear Butt and Crosscut to get our minimum(?) 5 stamps in. Probably really put the miles on Sat.;that way if we get back late or break down we'll still be in the drawing. Hopefully we'll get a chance to talk with you before you leave Fri. a.m. or head back to Newberry Fri. night. Thanks for the invite and hope it works out. John

Not a problem John. You folks have a safe ride up and we'll see you by Friday night hopefully. We will be practicing map jargon 'til the time comes to run. Then, it's every group for themselves...
It'll be a fun thing. We all got a little lost at times last year but hopefully, we've got it down...
