Hello all, great posts, lots of info, thanks.
I'm in need of some first hand advice, will be in the upper last
week of June and am lookin' forward to riding with my two kids.
Staying in the Hancock area, I see the Hancock-Calumet,Bill
Nicholls, and Baraga Plains Trails close by.
Three bikes SP 500 (winch)and two Recons any insight or advice
as to what to prepare for ie. difficulty, water, mud, black flies,
gas along the trail would be greatly appreciated.

Call the Chief of Police in Hancock (I can't remeber his name) but he rides atvs with his family up there and he is very helpful.
As for black flies, the only time during the summer their not out is in August.

SwampDog,
Bill Nichols trail is just an old railroad grade but has an an old mining town and abandoned mine just south of Hancock. Got a little bored with the rest but turned around where 26 meets the trail(about half way). I would do the Calumet loop north of Hancock; nice trails(when I was there in the spring)and the kids could probably get something out of Calumet which is the site of the first mineral rush in the U.S.
