Forestry trails, yes. State trails, no. The DCNR will fine bikes for sure on State trails...saw it for my own eyes! Bikes are registered through PennDot not the DCNR...therefore, no money contributes to the atv funding. Nope, it ain't fair at all!

Mike, the area I had my trouble was Steele Mnt which is in Newry if you know where that is.
Amy, we took a trip up to ANF for a weekend of riding and camping the end of July, we had an absolute blast. We rode Timberline and Marienville, Hyper Sport is correct that the trails are pretty tame but that doesnt mean it isnt great riding and beautiful woods. We were hoping to go back up the first of Sept before they close them back down. I cant wait.

Scram 500 Man,
Yeah, it's hard to tell where all of the state "Gaming" commission land is. After all we wouldn't want to trespass on there precious "gaming" lands. I call them the "Gaming Commission" because they are always pulling games on the hunters, like you can hunt does all week this year, but next year it's only three days unless we say other wise. You can only use patched round ***** and flintlock muzzle loaders this year, but you can use "Minnie" or "Maxi" ***** next year. Yadda, yadda, yadda......
As you can probably tell, I'm fed up with them to the point that I won't hunt in this state again, not to mention buying a licence. Frankly, I think they should do away with hunting in Pa. No hunting = No hunting licence. No hunting licence = no "Gaming commission". No "Gaming commission" = Hunt when ever you want and shoot as many deer as you want. But I digress....
It's funny how the "Gaming commission" always has money to buy land, but the DCNR never does.

Hey amy i ride up at murph nice area too. Everyone is getting worried about getting caught riding somewhere that they shouldn't be. If you don't stop for the cops or even don't put your license plate on when they mail it to you what have you got to worry about. Ofcourse i am going to get yelled at for being foolish or something along that line. Most people don't stop for cops anyways and how are they going to catch you if you ride back into the woods. People are also worried about riding on undesignated riding areas, i just wouldn't worry and ride were you normally ride and enjoy it. Chances are that you have and probobly are riding on undesignated areas and haven't been caught. I personally am fed up with all this crap so i am getting a bike, no registration and alot faster than an atv.

Warrior,
I'm not really worried about riding up at Murph. I'll keep riding up there until (if) we get a ticket. When that happens, I'll be selling the quad. I'm not driving 3 hours to go riding every friggin weekend. It's nice to be able to leave right from the house and hit the trails to Murph. I have noticed that our trails are growing in since no one really rides up that way. We were just up there Tuesday night. Hubby got stuck in the mudhole at the bottom of Big Murph. He's now been stuck in two of them. Oh well...at least he TRIES to go through them. Anyhow...hope to see you at Murph someday.

Listen everybody! I have a suggestion. I typed a small letter to the DCNR and I am sending it in with the forms they recently sent me/us. I simply stated my displeasure in the new law, the cost of insurance-vs- the lack of riding opportunities etc... I know a lot of people probably think it will do no good, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna look back at this some day and say all I did was bitch and complain and not even try to do anything about it. Of course I did my best to keep it on a professional level, but my last sentance wrote was "I can only hope that the new law will be revised to meet more needs than just those of the environmentalist". I have been riding ATC's, ATV's, and dirtbikes for the last 18 years and If the new law isn't revised ASAP we will all be looking for a new sport to enjoy SOONER or later. Thanks
