TEXMud,
The Indian had a Garmin Etrex or Etrax GPS which seemed to have some good mapping software in it. I'm not familiar with the "Metroguide" you mention. Is it a software package you purchase separate from the GPS? I have a Magellan 315, but it doesn't come with built in maps. You have to establish your own waypoints. I think I could buy a CD with the software to install the maps in the 315, but by the time you buy all their software and cables to connect to your computer, you could have bought a new Garmin with the software built in. What are your suggestions?
Ted

TEXMud,
Found some brand new Garmin etrex Vista's today for $365.00 with pc cable, 24 meg memory, topo cd. I also have a $50.00 rebate coupon from Garmin, so that would make the whole package $315.00. Sounds like a good deal to me.
I looked at all the maps on the garmin web page as you suggested including metroguide, roads and trails, and topo. The topo maps gave by far the best detail in the Mena area as far as trails and landscape are concerned. It even showed an eight acre pond next to my house and our four wheeler trail around it. It also showed all the trails on our deer lease. I live near Jasper, Tx.
Think I will go for that deal.
Thanks for the info.
