I just got back from riding my Sportsman 500 at Crooms and the official weight is 697 lbs. dry. I was told the weight limit is 900 lbs. now.
Cost me $25.00 for the sticker which is good till the end of June 2003. Just need your Vin number and Drivers Lic. now. Heard you will need a copy of your State title starting in July but not sure about that. The money for the State registration/Title is to create 5 state riding areas. But I have not seen where they are going to put them. The Ranger at Croom talked about them having a trail from Jacksonville to West Palm with camping and stores along the way. Only place I could see them doing that is along the St. Johns river.

So the ATV club I belong to is still waiting on the Official word.

 

wow that's quite a hike from palm bay to croom, how did you like it? Too many whoops for my liking, unless you know where to go along the outskirts... I was thinking of heading out there today but might just hit pt charlotte. They were also supposed* to be pro-rating the registration fee, but I guess they're not. They charged me 25 till june a few months ago....slight bit of a rip but who cares. Hopefully that money does go toward building new atv trails.....despite the fact we probably have more areas to ride than most states.... That talk of trail from jacksonville to west palm would be incredible, but as we know, speculation is a far cry from construction [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

 

It was a long ride, but it was for a Club ride. (Southern Knights ATV Club). 25 of us were there. I didn't like the whoops either. They need to drag the main trails at least to get rid of them. The Motorcross guys love them though. And the only mud I found was actually a clay mud. Took me over 2 hours cleaning to get it off my ATV.

As to the riding areas I'm sure it will take a long time for them to start any of them. And with the Enviro's trying to shut down the Federal parks (Ocala) we might end up losing riding areas. I'm lucky though a I live right at the Compound and I can go riding anytime I want. It's a quasi legal area to ride in. You have to stay in a certain area and off the paved roads and the police won't bother you. I'm a scout leader and the Asst. Cub Master is the policeman that patrols the area. Basically he told me, no drinking, no riding on the paved roads(except to cross them), and no running if they try to pull you over to talk. They'll impound you ATV or Bike and give you a ticket if you run.
