Rattlesnake Bay Closing
#31
missgirl, do you know about Bethel??? It's real close to you and you can spend a day riding out there. It doesn't have the mud, hills or other challenging but is miles and miles of trails that are kept up. I want to go down there and ride sometime. Send me an e-mail at rebelds@comcast.net and I can tell you more and also, others are wanting to organize a club. With a club, it's easier to find places to ride together.

Missgirl,
Have you looked into the sawdust pile it is only about 15-20 minutes from Gulfport/Biloxi it is state land and it has miles of trails that you can ride. Also before you give up on Atving check with your local Dealers about areas around here to ride. Good luck in whatever you decide .

The saw dust pile is that connected to bethel or two diffent place. I have a pretty good idea here bethel is and sawdust piles i have heard of it before but thought you couldn't ride there anymore where is that place? Didn't mean to sound to upset but it seem like all the places where closing. I've probably rode at the saw dust piles when i was a kid but don't remenber how to get there.

To get to Bethel, go up Hwy 49 until you get to Saucier and then take a right on Hwy 67. Go to the stop sign and then straight across and you'll be in the Desoto National Forest. There should be some signs to tell you how to get there. It may be easier to go up Hwy 15 from I-10. There are actually seven loops in the Bethel trail system for a total of distance of 68 miles, if advertised correctly. Besides ATV trails, there are trails for horses, walking, and bicycles. Rattlesnake Bay is closed but supposedly, only temporary. It's closed due to erosion and some trail maintenance is needed. I think it will be closed for 6 months. If you e-mail me at rebelds@comcast.net, I can send you a map of Bethel that shows the trails. Like I said, Bethel isn't for anyone who is wanting a challenge, but for those that want to spend several hours of riding and seeing some pretty scenery.

I talked to someone I know at the US Forestry Service and asked them about Rattlesnake Bay.....she said it will be closed indefinitely, but will open one day. In other words, she didn't have a clue about how long it would be closed, but said there was unacceptable erosion on the trail that needs a lot of repair.

I did some looking around and i found a site called trailsource. i found couple of place up norh mississippi i think. Has anybody been to homochito national forest in clearspring lake trails or longleaf trails. How about Tishomingo state park in the Tishomingo nature trail. And one more Tombigbee national forest in the natchez trace trail.
