Erik-
I think we have a little over 800 miles on our 600's. WE bought them the end of september last year. Can't wait to get out on them again.

OH-we have a daughter who turns 6 in august and we are thinking about getting her a machine but not sure if we should get her a little 50 or if we should wait a year or two and get her a 90. Anyone have any ideas??

Well our Mica trip,,,,hmmm,,,lets see. First we drove up Campbell road. As we were driving up Campbell, a guy in a pickup came up behind Mike doing about 60 so Mike decided to pull to the side and let him by. The ditch turned out to be a dropoff and Mike's jeep ended up at an extreme angle. I hooked onto him with my Chevy, put it in low range and pulled towards the other ditch. Nearly rolled the jeep there. Next we drove up Harvard, which leads to private property. Then we finally drove up Star road. When we got to the parking spot there were three pickups sitting there with notes posted on their windshields. The notes were warnings telling them that if they did not have permits, they would be cast into the lake of fire or something like that. We did not have permits and so we decided not to unload. End of Mica trip.

AKKARW;

In my opinion,,,, the 50 is a good choice, especially if you can find a used one. They don't lose much value once they are a couple years old and so you can resell it for nearly what you payed for it. I bought two little Suzuki 50's when mine were little. the next day I sold one of them for about a hundred dollars less than I had payed for both. NICE.

Thanks all for their input on what to get our 5 almost 6 year old. There are so many different routes you can go with buying a machine for a little one.

As far as where we going riding--we go down to st maries a lot and up the st joe towards calder. Our friends own a river lot there so we get free camping and easy access to trails. We have riden a lot in and around falls creek and st joe city and are looking to go up towards wonderful peak and that area soon.

We have also been to Elsie lake and are thinking about going up that way again. Its a pretty fun ride on some pretty easy trails but it can get technical in some parts.

WE also enjoy riding up in the canfield area. SInce we are new to Northern Idaho we have just been doing a lot of exploring.

Anywho enough ramble ;-)

If your daughter is average size or smaller, I would think about an LT80. Physically they are not as big as the 90's, makes it way easier for the younger kids to ride and learn on. They go like crazy once you open the throttle p all the way. The great thing about them is the throttle limiter. I bought my kids an LT80. My youngest two were 5 and 6 y/o. Never been riding before and they did great. I kept the throttle turned down way low and they just putt putted around, absolutely no problems. After I got done with their lil training regiment and they rode for a while, I gradually turned up the throttle. They are 6 and 7 now and doing great, but I still don't open the throttle up all the way. My 9 y/o daughter is doing great and I can almost keep the throttle all the way open for her.
I think your daughter would be able to ride the LT80 safely for a few years before having to upgrade.

Good Luck

Quad4Fun-
Hey thanks for your input. Who makes the LT80?? Probably a bogus question--but not too familiar with who makes what.
Thanks

Sorry, it's a Suzuki LT80. They are built pretty good and they are reliable. New they are about $2299. I bought new because I have three kids out torchering it, and we will keep it for a few years before the youngest outgrows it (or I outgrow it for that matter, hehe, I love riding it). You can find good used ones for anywhere from $1500 to $1800. Any questions or want more info, feel free to ask. Or also go to the "Kids Quads and Other ATV" Topic. Lots of info on there also. I put my 5 y/o on a little 50 and felt he would outgrow it pretty quick, that's why I decided on the LT80. Physically it is smaller than all the other 90's, even the Artic Cat 50 is bigger than the LT80 I think. I have found the LT80 to be completely safe for the younger ones due to the throttle limiter. My kids have many many hours on theirs, and have not rolled or crashed theirs YET, I'm sure it's inevitable though. There are really cheap ways to widen them out also when/if needed.

Good Luck

Hello everyone!!!

Its been a while. . . . I miss this thing!! I was doing great keeping this string up top and then my work decided to change their internet filter and now I can't access this 4m from work at all. To top it off its been a long battle trying to get internet at home. . . . no more DSL got to go backwards to the dial up junk again. I should be back on line at home by next week.

Brad and Kori ~ I am soo glad that you guys could make it here!!! I can now say that I have recruited someone to the site, and we will get to have some great rides.

I have done a few short rides around here over the past few weeks. I have been to mica 4 times (one of them we met Brad and Kori) but part of me isn't satisfied. I need some longer rides!!!!! Don't get me wrong I enjoy any riding I can get but I would like to do a allllllll day ride some time!!!! Any one game??? It would make for a good camping weekend some time!!

I think I am game for a quick ride this saterday. I know that Ragged and Pastor are talking about thompson creek I talked to Chirs (my lurking brokther) and he says that he can come out and play. I will have my youngest brother in town to play in hopfest so I will have to feel it out. The more the merrier!! I have only one request. . . if we go up thompson creek. . . . lets get off the road!! PLEASE!!

See ya all on the trails!!!
God Bless
