I have been reading alot about these drought conditions. The "experts" are predicting a incalcuable year. What that means is they have never seen it this bad. As I stated before...I sure hope this won't keep us out of the woods. As long as I have been riding in the woods I have never seen or heard of an atv starting a fire...have you?

I can't recall any specific incidnets but I can think of a few ways a fire could get started due to human error.
An out of control atv flipping over spewing gas and/or causing sparks from metal striking rocks.
An atv without a spark arrestor driving off a trail.
An atv dragging some sort of metal object such as a chain.
An atv parked in some dry weeds.
A person fueling up an atv while smoking a cigarette. (I've seen people fueling up dirt bikes and cars doing this.)
An atv rider disguarding his unextingushed cigarette butt.
etc, etc,
Polaris is planning on having one of their ATV Adventure Tours in Wallace in mid July this year.....maybe not a good idea.

I just found this forum by doing a Google for “Fernan Saddle” last Thursday night and have spent every evening reading through all 28 pages of this thread. I feel like I know all you guys as friends already, as a matter of fact, I think I met Jay about a month ago at one of my secret riding spots and I kinda know "akkarw" from their Geocaching posts, so I thought it was time to quit being a lurker and finally post my first question!
Have any of you guys ever ridden around Elk River, Idaho? They’s a bunch of GEOCACHES hidden in the mountains around there and I’m dying to go find them. Any idea when the snow is gone enough to access the mountains is what I’m looking for, as well as input from people who have ridden that area would be greatly appreciated.

Just git back from Revelstoke BC and it was awsome powder! But the sun didnt shine on us so the climbs were few far between because of the flat light....Avi danger was VERRRY high on wind loaded slopes we found when I took the first stab at a steep hill and as I turned out to come down it broke behind me.......it wasnt to big but a little scarry none the less...dont want to ever have to use my avi beacon ...ya know what Im sayin??...especially from under the snow!! lol
.
never saw an avi before this trip and saw 3 in two days....only 1 was pretty big...broke across a 1/4 mile and was about 3 foot deep slab...it caught the rider coming down....He was able to power out of it but needless to say it real put a wet blantet soo to speek out our trip...We stayed to the lesser slopes and left earlier than planed...the rest of the guys are still up there so were praying they ride safe...
.
we still had a ball and hopefully got some good vidio for "Fundamental Elements" it should be released this fall....Its a Christian extreme sports vidio...
.
With that trip over I think sledding season is over...TIME TO BREAK OUT THE QUADS!! My kids are chomping at the bit to get out and ride..so I will be getting things serviced this week to get ready...
Pastor...better hurry up and pick up the new toy...spring is always the best time to ride and this spring is going to be short...besides with all the preachers coming in for convention dont you want to take them to the mountains...
.

Kori, don’t worry about spillin the beans about being “Lucky Angel”, I had already figgered that out in one of your previous posts. Believe it or not, I’ve been kinda unintentionally stalking you guys over at Geocaching.com. Every time I find a good mountain top cache, I’ve noticed you’ve either found it or you’ve hidden it. I’ve enjoyed reading your logs and am planning on finding a few of them South of I 90 caches in the future based on some of your stories.
We’re planning on going to that Camp and Cache event down at Glens Ferry over Memorial Weekend and getting in a little desert riding, I don’t know how well I’ll like that, but it’s a great group of people and we always enjoy our rides with them once a year North of McCall. I also want to do that Elk River ride before June, ‘cause that’s when I have to get busy cutting alfalfa and I won’t have much time for the rest of the summer to do any playing.
Ragged, sounds like you had a great trip up North, those avalanches sound a little too scary for me though. I’ve got a couple of old Yamaha Phasers, which were pretty good way back when, but last time I went riding all my friends had new Summits and other mountain sleds, so I was pretty much a spectator watching them play in the bowls. I’m just getting too old to be digging them things out anymore, but I sure had a lot of fun with them when I was younger!
Well, take care you guys, I’ll get back to lurking and hopefully some day run into you on the trails.
