Default little sahara ok trip

I'm not going to be there that weekend (I tend to avoid the big weekends) but here are some hints & tips.

Waynoka is a small town they have a motel but you better make reservations well in advance if you want to stay there especially on a holiday weekend .
There are restraunts from, the typical truck stop, BBQ sold out of a trailer to a nice sit down restraunt with table cloths in town.
There is a convinence store & a grocrie (sp) store in town too.

There is an ATV store in the camp grounds there are also at least 2 more stores in town, Jims sand toys & I don't remember the name of the other store. Jims is right next to the entrance of the North camp ground & has a large stock of ATV parts, they also have unbreakable whips with flags.

There are 3 diffrent campgrounds, the south camp is the largest & it's dune entrance is adjacent to the drag strip.
The North camp & Cowboy camp are smaller but newer, the Cowboy camp is the newest.
the entrances to the dunes for both of these camps are adjacent to the big dunes.

There are diffrent rules enforcement for the diffrent campgrounds.
In The South camp rules are more loosely enforced, cruising around, late night partys & such are tolerated more.
you can't get away with everything but kept within reason the rangers dont mess with you as much.

The North Campground & Cowboy camps are diffrent!!!
Riding around the camp grounds is not recomended, joy riding or fast & stupid riding is jumped on quickly. You should only ride from your camp to the dunes there, it's not that big of a deal since these camps are much smaller than the South camp.
Loud partys are shut down fast!!
Most of us old timers go to the North & Cowboy camps for just that reason.

Showers work like pay car washes, you'll need quaters to use them.

The Rules on the dunes are laxer than most dune areas, there are no sound checks, spark arrestors are not required & they don't shut down the dunes at night.
There are some things that will get you in trouble fast at Sahara though.
Alcoholic beverages are not premitted in the dune areas nor is galss containers. that'll get you busted fast & they check coolers & packs at the entrance gates.

Fires are not allowed in the dunes, In the 70's we used to burn VW engine cases in the dunes, magnisium burns & it's very cool but you can't do that anywhere at the park any more.

The park boundries are marked & you don't want to be caught out of bounds, you could loose your quad!!!!

Don't screw with the park rangers!!!
They have more power than Police or Highway patrol!!!
They are a nice bunch of rangers at Sahara, It's nothing like the BLM, Sahara funds every other state park in OK.
they know where there bread is buttered but don't think they won't throw you in jail if they have too!!!!

If you need to drive into town to go get parts, go to the store or a restraunt or whatever don't even think about driving drunk or with an open container, patrols are constant, vigilant & are at all hours & you will go to jail & will not pass go!!!!

There have been people killed at sahara, it's gotten more frequent in the last few years, the local fire dept has a rescue buggie & so does the park, they are used way too often.
There is no helmet rules at Sahara, but you will want to wear one if your smart.
the dunes are constantly changing, what was a easy sloped dune one day may be a straight drop off the next, it doesn't take a lot of wind to reshape the dunes, always know what is on the other side of a dune before you go flying over it!!!!

Always have a spotter at the top when jumping you don't want to launch in to or on to some body!!!

This is a great place to ride, big & small dunes, trails, tree shots, something for everyone.

Here are some helpfull links.
