Ok, I called Rocky Mountain Atv and they said that in an 8 inch rim I can only get a 22x11x8, 8 paddle , if I want a 10 paddle I have to get a 10 inch rim, 22x11x10 10 paddle. What tire would you reccomend, or I can special order an 8 inch rim with a 10 paddle but that could take a while. Thanks for helping me out!

 

RAPTORAZ- i have never used the buffed tires but i think that they have a much thinner carcass to reduce weight and are much more prone to damage than a regular tire .i have always assumed that the lighter weight was to reduce weight and make it much easier to achieve wheelspin which would help in drag racing. if i am wrong i am sure that someone will soon school me on the subject.

 

For the "what does Buff mean?" question, hear is my idea. I am new to the whole sand tire thing, so someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Skat Trak takes a regular tire, and goes at it with a special grinder, like a buffer for waxing a car. Only it is rough enough to cut away the rubber of the tire. They grind away as much rubber as posible from the outside surface of the tire. That is why Skat Trak tires have a rough finish to them as campared with the smooth moulded tire. After the bufing they then glue or weld (melt?) the paddles onto the tire.

As for my limited understanding, the difference between a normal and a "triple buff" or "ultra buff" is that on the normal tires they only buff the contact patch area. The part that will be touching the ground. On the triple buffs I think they grind the tire even thinner, and they also buff the sidewall areas. This makes the tire lighter and lets it flex and bite into the sand better.

Go guys, am I on the right track? Please let me know if my thinking is correct and please fix any misconceptions I may have.

First off i have 20" tall Extreme haulers on a 10" rim, 10 paddle...... and i have only lost to one 4 stroke at florecne and i've raced 500 4 strokes if not more.... even the people with 690 kits still lose to my raptor because they use the wrong gearing or the wrong paddles.... I put a GPS in my back pack and ran comp with the 20s, it went 38 mph on semi dry sand. I put a set of regualr haulers on my bike that were 22s and ran the hill a couple of times, my speed was 45 mph..... I now have a set of 22X11X8 10 paddle Xtreme haulers in med buff ordered from skat-trak..... so if anyone says OH NO it will bog your bike down, tell them to go fly a kite...... oh ya one of the best parts about a 22 is they also baloon out more when you get them spinning so that means you have a even bigger tire [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

I run 21-12-8 12 paddle. The 12" tire on a 8" rim gets even taller than the 22's with speed!! I have tried 10 paddles before and had to much wheel spin. With the 12 paddle is does take at least a 6" swing arm to keep the front in down but it does come out the hole real fast and in a 300' drag race your take off is everything.

A drag type hauler (triple buff, or a bead to bead) are a much taller tire usually have at least a 72inch rollout (rollout is the distance traveled in 1 rotation. To five you an idea, a 72 inch rollout tire (which is considered small) travels 6 feet in 1 tire rotation. The tires are lighter. The tire is cut down 3 times (they call it a triple buff) before the paddle is vulcanized to the tire. They are still durable, it depends on how you treat your tires. Ive had a set of 9 paddles that ive ridden for over a year and they are still in great shape
