Cases split for tranny, any upgrade recommendations
My 02 Raptor tranny seized so I need a rebuild. While the cases are split, any suggestions on
motor upgrades while its all hanging out? Have any of you replaced transmission components with
anything other than Yamaha stock components? The quad is 1.5 years old, maybe ridden every third
week and I am very disappointed with the tranny reliability.

Tell us about what happened to the tranny? Seized? explain what happened please. As for upgrades, get a carrillo rod installed on the crank. That way, if you ever go 686 or bigger, that part is covered already. Please tell us of the tranny and what happened.

I had just done regular maintenance on the quad and had gone out for maybe a 20 mile ride. I was returning home on a dirt rode and had the clutch in, downshifting to make a turn, going maybe 20 mph. All of a sudden I heard the grinding of metal and the back tires seize up. I took the Raptor to ATV Racing in Phoenix, took off some of the side covers and ruled out the starter gear. I will find out by Friday what gear(s) failed and post a digital picture. Thanks for the advice on the parts I should add. My wallet is being drained, might as well drain it further while Im at it.

In another thread he said that 3rd gear split in half. In another thread he said it was 18 months ago when purchased, that was in May somtime when that was said. That would put the purchase in Sept 01. It could be an 01 or an 02 at that point but you'd think a person would know what year quad he has. You'd think. Wish turtler would chime in with updated info on the failure.
