Kodiak 450 carb???
#1
Hi on sunday when my dad and I tore apart the Kodiak 450 we looking at this one part that connected to a cable. Its part # 21cable/ starter set. Anyways it looks like a mini throttle needle. Whats its purpose? After the cable disconnected the Kodiak ran like its old self (it was running crappy before). the problem is that it won't come out. Any suggestions?

All that does is enrich the idle mixture for starting cold. It's connected to the choke lever. If you unhooked it and it worked better, that means your cable was probably pulled all the time. Look for a cable end pulled out, or misrouted. Do you remember a mishap, with a tree limb, or did it roll, etc.? That would cause the cable to get pulled out of shape. Rule of thumb on choke cables, there should be a little play in the cable housing, when it's off.
btw, doesn't it "bite" that you can't link from the online parts at Yamaha.com?

Yeah I hit a mud/water hole too fast in low and it coughed and sputtered. Drained the belt case, let it idle for 10 minutes+ and I dried any water off the air filter. And it still didn't want to run!! Then we pull the carb apart and the starter set cable falls off and voila! it runs like its old self. Only problem is that I can't get it out to reconnect the cable I was thinking maybe a magnet to pull it out or does a pressure of some sort push it out? Hopefully when I reconnect it it will run like it normally does.
