Well I have been reading this thread for a bit, and really didnt want to reply untill i got some bad news today. I buddy that I used to ride with, died last night because of the exact reason of this topic. He whent out riding the town and got spotted. While trying to outrun the cops on his bike, he drifted into the opposite lane and struck a jeep head on. The bike ended up in the engine compartment, and you could not even tell what kind of bike he was riding. I guess the point is a life is more important than running for a measly 60 dollar ticket. I cant say im a saint, for I have done it before too. However the last time I had smoky on my tail I did stop. Not worth the life guys. Please think before you run. You might get away with it this time but next time.....

ptlm3,
I was gonna ask if you ever raced down at Leisure Time GP but I didn't know how much you were into it. Is it still wide open, sandy and flat [for a motocross track] ?

There is a place right across the street from the prison [in MC] where we used to ride alot, small dunes, trails that go in and out of the woods. If you go it's on both sides of the Amtrak rails, dunes to the north and trails and small practice track on the south side.

My Senior season was Homer's first as coach @ VU. I played with Scott Anselm, Todd Smith and Mike Jones from Valpo high. Scott and Mike still live there. Todd's dad Tom was our coach before Homer. Casey Schmidt and Dave Redmon [also Valpo high guys] played a few years after me. I think Bryce was in 7th or 8th grade when they moved to town.

I remember one year, after I was out of high School, Hebron had a good team. They played in the regional @ my high school [Rogers] They had some big boys on that squad. I think they lost to Valpo, that was a long time ago. Man my 20 year reunion is next summer.

Living in Arizona is the best. You can ride 365 days a year [within 1 hour of my house] You just have to go up into the mountains where it is 20-25 degrees cooler. Glamis, Buttercup, Gordon's Well are under 4 hours from home. That's really why I moved out here. I was racing every week in Illinois just to ride.

I am usually back home for this week [Silver Lake and Red Bud National] but I have a family reunion coming up down in Evansville next month and I am saving my other 3 weeks for a "Dream dune vacation" from Christmas thru the middle of January. Hey my 2 buddies from MC are trailering out a 30ft Pace 5th wheel. Another friend of mine from Joliet is putting his quad in the trailer and flying out to ride Glamis for 5 days, flying back and leaving me his quad to BEAT. j/k We had discussed getting some other guys from "the Region" who wanted to go to Glamis to tag along or to trailer with us and they could fly out. I wanted to see how it went cuz I think there is a biz oppurtunity there. [I am in the auto biz and we have transports that come and go to Chicago weekly. Might be something to discuss. That's a long post. Time to hit the hay.

trx440, The track at Leisure Time is still the same as you remember it, all sand, they did change it some this year by adding more jumps and changing some turns in the back. I work security there for the races, so as payment I can ride there anytime and can race while working so it's a pretty good deal.

As far as riding at the prison goes. I heard they have cracked down on it, and are not letting people ride there anymore, but that changes all the time. Remember how you could ride down the tracks to get to the you wanted to go. Well you can't do that anymore because a guy was riding down the tracks on a Banshee wide open and crashed, he almost died and is still messed up. So now the Conservation officers will ticket you for tresspassing on railroad property and impound the quad. They are actually being nice because trespassing is a misdemeanor and Jailable. They are even hard on other cops for riding there. I guess the railroad was afraid of getting sued after the crash so they started calling down state raising hell with the Conservation Brass.

You're right about Hebron, they did play there one year for sectionals or regionals. I escorted them one year in the earlier 90's, (when I worked for Hebron PD) to Lafayette to play in the regionals. They lost, but I don't remember to who.

Well if you ever get back up this way feel free to contact me. I can meet you to go riding somewhere. If you don;t have anything to ride, You are more than welcome to ride my wife Banshee. Well take care and have a great Holiday weekend.

i have ran on my rancher!! me and my freind were riding along the high way and a cop went by we waved at him and he turned around. we took of down a little shortcut we know and crossed the road around the block drove into the woods and parked it. Yesterday the same cop was seen in the same little town riding around on all of the dirt roads so we called the sheriffs office and asked if we were breaking any laws. turns out we werent so the next time we get pulled over we are supposed to get the cops car and badge number so we can report him to his sargent

Yeah some of the cops around here use to be the **** bout now they are starting to crack down on us. they would come to where we were riding and we would stop wat we were doing and go talk to them to c wats wrong and they would just want to sit there and watch us ride and everything, but now this happend on the last day of school. There was prolly about 15 people going riding and i had had my quad out on the steet earlier that morning cuz it was the first time i got to ride this quad with the pipe on it this was around 8 oclcok so no biggy on the morning issue, school gets out and we are all driving around in our trucks and cars, cop rolls into town in his new 4X4 and so word gets out on the CB's that we all got, ya were hicks. lol. then like 10 mins. later a state trooper pulls into town so we are like o crap then they goto the school parking lot where one kid unlaoded his quad to go get his cuzins quad so i go up there and load it up into my truck and i get poped the million questions by the cops. told them i was just adjusting the valves for the kid. lol. but they talked to some outher people and told them that we would get fined and the quad would get impounded like hat with 4 tickets amounting to well over 400 bucks!!!! So that ruins our day of riding every one is thinking. WRONG i go home start my Z in the garage and it has a WB promeg pipe on it and let it warm up and go ride it back behind my house and over at our gokart track ( yeah we have one of the best tracks in iowa!) its on private property and guess who shows up and about kills me while i am riding a 4rth gear wheelie? the county mounty in his Tahoo, he starts yelling at me for riding it and i just dont sit there while i am in the right a way so i told him i was out of town wich i was by liek 20 yards and i was on private property any ways. he didnt like that and left and kept a good eye for a few minutes then him and his buddy left town and we had a greet day of riding! But they worst part is they have 4X4 tahoos and yeah harder to run from them than a crown vic. lol

I like to think I play life by the rules, and if I get caught with my hand in the cookie jar, I must accept my punishment. I would not run from the police, they will catch you eventually, like running away from the school bully, he will eventually catch you and beat the crap out of you. Be a man, or woman, take your lumps and press on.

I've got a little story to show that not all cops are a$$holes. About 5 yrs ago my father in law bought a wheeler
out of the sunday paper. The seller said he couldn't find the regestration card for it but would mail when he
found it. So my father in law asked for a written reciept and the seller gave him one (luckily). So we take the wheeler up to the cabin in Wisconsin and I just had to ride it, So it was me and my wife's cousin riding two up
with no gear on (stupid), We're just putting down the fire break and ol'smokey shows up. I stop right away.
He tell's me there had been several complaints about people tearing up and down the road and told me to
stop it. I said yes sir I'll head home now. He said fine and have a good day. As he was heading back to his car and I just about fired it up he turns around and asked for the registration, I told him It was my father in laws
wheeler and I didn't have it with me. He took down the vin # and calls it in. Turns out this thing is stolen. He
Verified it like 4 times. because they changed all the plastic on the wheeler to different color. I told him that the guy he bought it from gave him a written reciept with his name and address on it. He sat in his car for about 10 minutes with his head on the steering wheel thinking about what to do. He came back over to us and told my passanger to get in the back of his squad incase I try to run. Then I got scared. He told me to fire that thing up and he was going to follow me back to the cabin to get the reciept and not to flee because he had my license. We get to the cabin we show the reciept. he's in the car for a half hour. I thought me and my father in law were both going to jail. He came back with a ticket and handed it to me. It was for $145 for riding on the fire breaks. He said he had to do it because of the situation and he had to confinscate the wheeler. He said he was sorry for us but he's doing his job. I feel I got off lucky and if it wasn't for him being a cool cop and me doing what I was suppose to things could have got ugly. BTW they did arrest the guy that sold the wheeler.
