Default should nerf bars be standard safety equiptment?

Got the helmet thread going now what about nerf bars. Should everyquad come from the factory with them?? My worst accident was because of a lack of nerfs. My foot came off and the rer tire ran over my foot and the back of my calf was ripped open from the foot peg. That would not have happened if i had nerfs at the time. Since them i have nerfs on all my quads and the kids also. So should nerfs be standard??

Nerfs w/ heel guards or full floor boards should almost be standard. Personally I almost felt safer w/ just the heel guards than my nerfs w/ out them. I have ran my foot over twice already after bottoming out.

I've never had them, but would like a set. but you also should wear boots to prevent calf and shin injuries.

do nerf bars add any extra protection over the already required heel guards?

Yes nerf do add safety over heel gaurds. If your foot goes off the front of the peg, as in 14's case, your foot will land in the net, not on the groung to get ran over, while the cheese grater, I mean foot peg, chews your calf. Blaster Devil is right, wear boots. I feel that with boots and nefrs, the wost damage you could do is about 10% of what you would do without them. Plus you can ride harder with boots, since you have a better platform to stand on.
I can' tthink of a reason besides weight and cost not to have nerfs. I guess that us guys without reverse lose the foot reverse feature too.

losing the foot reverse for those NON-reverse quads is a good point!!
