Sounds like a good project ! I dont claim to be an expert but let me know if I can help - Here's one weird tool that really helped remove the inner cam bearing. I was at a loss until I found this thing. It may be a common tool for regular mechanics but being a novice I had never used a puller like this one.

Puller

Have fun and keep the little one busy with the project - if it's like my Warrior, it'll be around until he graduates High School

If that bearing is like any other bearing on this wheeler then that puller would be nice. I am hoping that I can find a good machine shop to to my vavles and replaced the bearings for me at a good price but if not then I may buy one of those pullers.

I dont think the hotcam makes near as much power as the Alba (megacycle). I think the Hot Cam dosent have much lift (unless theyve released a new one lately)

From the info I gathered, the Hot Cam does not have as much lift as the others - you can use stock valve springs. They claim more duration rather than lift.

The cam should just pull out of the head easily - screw the bolt that holds the cam gear back in and wiggle/pull on it. If you change the inner bearing you'll probably need some kind of puller.
