Haven't been on here in weeks, and all of a sudden there's a big post abuot mustangs!!

Our mustang runs 383 stroker (based on a 351 windsor block) with F.A.S.T. EFI, a PT-88 Turbocharger & intercooler combo. It's street legal, and has run a number of laps in the mid-high 8.s I think he's ran an 8.51 quarter mile with it once, trap speed in the high 150s. We took it to World Ford Challenge in June and took home third place in True Street.

On a recent trip to the Mustang Dyno (not affiliated with Ford) shop, the car put 790HP to the wheels. At the crank, it's somewhere north of 1100HP. WIth the EFI and a relatively mild cam, it starts and idles around like Gtrannie's oldsmobile. Doesn't overheat either - he drives it 30 miles into Omaha every weekend.

This linnk is old, from last year, when he was in the nines, but the combo is still accurate. Now he's running 24PSI of boost instead of the 12 reported here:

Stock for stock, the SS no longer exists in new form and if so,the 03 Cobra will obliterate it.

I love the SS,and if it had been around when i was buying(way back in 1997),I would not have wound up with a Stang anyway.
But reality is the SS was priced quite a bit higher than the GT. You can add a blower to the Gt and still come in under the SS price.

If we're going to compare prices of similar type cars,we should equalize the price points..
Its like saying the Z06 smokes the Cobra........duh.....of course it does.
Add 20k to the price and it SHOULD.

the ss was indeed a very good performer, but, it won't even come close to the cobra. the mach 1 would proabably take the ss, & cobra vs. zo6 = who's the better driver. the cobra does not have the top end of the z06, but only cause it's chipped not to run over 155. the fix for this cost around $200. the ss served it's purpose by providing slightly better numbers than the g.t.

I agree with everybody that says the newer mustangs are more powerful. I know the early 90's the gt's mad about 228 hp and my little 3.0 non turbo nissan 300zx made 222hp. Although the stang had more torque than my z. I've beat many an older stock mustangs but most were pretty ragged out. I've been smoked by a couple too but I couldn't hold a candle to the 1999 and up gt. The regular gt jumped to over 260hp in 99 and each upgrade gt-cobra-saleen was a lot more powerful than the next. I know when the 99 came out die-hard 302 guys were having a cow that reviewers were saying the 4.6 liter engine was the most powerful gt ever. I've been with my buddy and we've raced many 5.0's and he's only lost to one of them and it was an older lx. He fixed it up some more and last I heard he was runnin about 12.887 through the quarter. Oh as for the original post you should race a really hopped up stang sometime.
