Default hypothetical - YFZ vs Raptor

according to HMF, the YFZ is about 33HP stock.... and the Raptor is about 35HP stock... so that gives them both a 0.09 power-to-weight ratio, stock for stock.... adding a pipe and proper jetting gets the YZF up to around 40HP, and the Raptor up to around 45HP... so that gives them both a 0.11 power-to-weight ratio.... looks like these 2 are neck and neck in a straight line.... but the YZF is lighter, and handles better, they say.....

I really want to see how both stock quads compare to each other on the same dyno, on the same day... that would tell the tale

no point to prove, just something to think about...

I guess if it were me, this is how I would choose

MX, and/or if I weren't ever going to do internal engine mods - I'd pick the YZF

but if I were planning on doing internal engine mods(there's no replacement for displacement) or if I were going to be doing mostly trail riding(narrow, soft suspension, reverse) - I'd pick the Raptor

2 GREAT Sport Quad choices from Yamaha! thanks

If the two were being used strickly for racing.....

For MX...definitely the YFZ..

Desert racing....definitely the Raptor....

I agree. Two great quads, just depends on what kind of riding your gonna do. Its great to see so many great quads in the industry.

Look at these two charts. According to their numbers its nowhere NEAR even. Looking at this a 686 MIGHT keep up with a piped cammed yfz450
I think the runs you are comparing are a Raptor on slick dyno tires and a YFZ on knobies. Thats why the raptor appears to have an edge.

Bone Stock
just HMF vs HMF and cam timing mod

Don't want to pick a fight...but you did know that GT Thunder's dyno graphs are mostly all BS and innacurate.

And yea the YFZ is probably slighty more powerful than a Raptor...but there's almost no more room for improvement. They are running 11.9:1 compression stock when most stock quads are running in the high 9's. (Unsure of Raptor, but DS650 is 9.7:1 stock), they have aggresive cams and the head leaves no room for significant porting.

Meaning, raise the compression on both quads to 14:1, install the best cam set-up you can find and port the head. The YFZ won't have much gains...but the Raptor will REALLY wake the **** up...

Do this to both quads...and the YZF will get smoked by the Raptor in a straight line every single time (or atleast it should).

If sparks managed to make like 70hp from a 400ex, and this bike only makes ~40hp stock. There is room for improvment.....

Two very impressive quads to the say the least.

And I'm very pleased with my 660R Raptor. The pipe and jet's and air filter really turned my quad on. Maybe next year I'll go ahead and get a YFZ.

the yfz bike has 12.5:1 compression and kicks the butt; and most certainly hauls it - given the same amount of money in just engine mods the raptor is dead. sorry to be the one to bring you the news. you can do more with more but sometimes you start with less even if there is more if you know what I mean....

That's the great part about the YFZ, you don't have to do a F**King thing to the motor except put a pipe on it and open the airbox! It's a 45 HP motor easy, how much more do you need?
